Hey folks, welcome to the new whine/general topic thread. Feel free to use this thread to discuss anything that is on your mind. Caregiving- related stuff, life after a loved one's death, your own emotional wellbeing. Whatever..........anything on your mind.
Which December, by the way? For me, since December 2010! Haha.
My knee and hand arthritis pain is definitely spiking from the holiday snacking of sweets, carbs and cheese.
As of today I'm back to my anti inflammatory food regimen.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Us caregivers are allowed to have few bad habits.
Mine in addition to huge amounts of chocolate are cookies lately.
And after not having any wine for at least months I quite enjoy few glasses lately as well.
Maybe I just get more wine, I used to like bold red glass or two of vino and good box of chocolates. Maybe better than boxes of cookies?
Waytomisery, you’re absolutely right, the type of stress we face now is totally different (less control now). And you’re totally right: I’m also facing a gang of flying monkeys! And I know, the reason I’m stress eating now is that I’ve never faced as much stress as now.
I wish us all courage. I do hope I get rid of my bad eating habit soon. HUG.
You weren’t smarter when you were younger. It’s that the type of stress is different now.
We have more control over our own lives when we are younger , as opposed to when you are dealing with caregiving , and the flying monkeys.
One thing that has helped me with impulsive eating is to have a healthier alternative available; so pre-cut veggies and dip, popcorn instead of chips, that kind of thing. And lately I've been putting together snack mixes made from various dry breakfast cereals with some peanuts or pretzels or mini crackers mixed in. It's still snacking but it's better than hitting the high fat high salt stuff.
I mean
that it’s smart to eat healthily and exercise (and NOT use food as a crutch), which is what I used to do, until I started my bad habit of stress eating. Until now, I always blamed the stress: the stress is the reason I turn to food and put on weight. Now I’m starting to think, maybe I was just smarter when I was younger.
Yes , I’ve been known to stress eat .
I just bought a walking pad , was delivered today . It’s like a mini treadmill . The handle folds down and the whole thing can slide under a bed out of the way in one of the kids’ old bedrooms if they stay overnight. Especially when my allergies keep me inside , I’d rather look at a mountain view from a window than exercise in the basement .
Allergies the last couple of years really bad so I wasn’t walking enough outside , put on some weight , oh and the very cold winter this year that made extra baking and snacking happen more often didn’t help .
Anyway , my plan is to do some routine walking on my pad . But also if I feel like snacking , when I know I’m not hungry , to go walk on my walking pad instead and listen to music.
On my end, too. And if I’m sad, angry or unhappy, I start stress eating. I know it’s not the solution, but food makes me feel better. I didn’t always do this. I used to be skinny. I try to think back how I dealt with stress in the past, when I was skinny. I was better at avoiding bad people. I only surrounded myself with good people. I think I was better at dealing with stress. I’m going to try to be more like how I used to be.
I started doing Jazzercise 8 months ago and it’s been helping me slim down and has been a nice social outlet. I always meet someone cheerful there which helps me a lot.
Someone actually said I lost weight when they saw me last week. I’m trying to watch what I eat and try not to binge on carbs and sweets.
I did not know that today was St. Patrick's Day-the wearing of the green.
But I did talk to my new indoor Boston Fern, thanking it for bringing in oxygen
to our home.
Looks like spring will arrive on time!
Yesterday we went to the seawall thinking we'd get a nice long walk in but nope. Brrrrr..............!! So we stopped at a restaurant and had pizza and greek salad instead.
Yesterday,it was so hot ,you could have gotten a suntan but now it's only 32 degrees and it's supposed to get down to 1 degree by tomorrow.
The weather is CrAzY~
Saying hello, if you are still here after tomorrow!
Lol, that was just a weather joke.
Hope everyone is safe, always.
Hi Pamzi and CWillie!
Anyone else?
Seniors should shelter in place if they have a/c, or go to a "Cooling Center"
for their safety.
WARNING:
Another thing, is DO NOT leave your child, grandchild, elder, or dogs in a car for even one minute. No reason to have heat related deaths.
Am I the only poster left who posts on this thread?
Sending many hugs and prayers to one of our best support people:
Bundle of Joy.
That was so kind of you.
Nothing but rain all day.
Found out our City has no shelters for tornados.
It was not the "mainstream" media reporting it, kind of
a controversial reporter. However, the main news did pick it up, then said nothing.
Found that there was a weak tornado last week in Pico Rivera but I did not know.
Knowledge/facts are needed to stay safe, so I am learning. But no longer worried.
Back to cleaning house.
He said to pray.
Not even a radio, or blankets, or helmets.
Very unusual, expecting a "tornado?" in Southern California.
Not likely to be like in areas frequented by tornados, I am hoping.

Glad you are feeling better.
I know how you feel I am always sick after.
If I can answer for Golden as we live not far from each other, we don’t want that weather but I am sorry about it.
Not to ruin anyone's fun, but I have taken advice to have any immunizations done only one at a time, a week to a few weeks in between. I could care less about the doctor or clinic's convenience. I am all for the patient's comfort and safety.
At the doctor's office, we would split the 5cc injection of immunoglobulin into two different doses, one on each side. Less bulk equals less pain. Do they even give that anymore? It worked wonders for people who were run down by a flu, and were not recovering.
If you only get one type (one shingrix) then you can be sure to know
what one you might be allergic to if the time comes.
Can you imagine how many vaccines are shot into the recruit's arm at once when joining the armed forces? Is there a safe limit?
Only the sensitive people will care about this.
Glad you are feeling better Cwillie.
