Hey folks, welcome to the new whine/general topic thread. Feel free to use this thread to discuss anything that is on your mind. Caregiving- related stuff, life after a loved one's death, your own emotional wellbeing. Whatever..........anything on your mind.
So very sad when others can not extend grace in situations that are no fault of the person with the issue.
Gershun, cooked cabbage is a SUPER FOOD for sinuses.
I like to heat a nice broth and put some cut cabbage in it. Stays crisp but is cooked and always makes my sinuses and DH feel better.
Just some more information that might be beneficial to you.
Has always helped me feel better from the inflammation. I usually reheat the compress like 3 or 4 times, yummy feeling to have that hot, moist rag on painful sinuses.
I pray you have nothing serious. Get well soon!
Golden, I did take a sudafed today. I find these things help
temporarily.
Anabanana, I just recently had a bunch of dental work done
so I doubt it's teeth related but I do hear you about how tooth
pain can be mistaken for sinus pain.
Anxiety, I do have one of those rice bag things. I might drag it out.
One weird side effect of this whole sinus thing is it's been making
my eyes twitch. Really irritating. I'm hoping my doc comes through
for me. Even though I don't have anything coming out of my nose
I'm wondering if a course of antibiotics may help?
Weirdly, I think this whole thing started as a side effect of an
antidepressant I was prescribed. I've heard sinus problems can be
a rare side effect. I stopped taking it about 6 weeks ago but I
hear it can take a while for antidepressants to release from your
brain receptors.
But thx for your feedback everyone. You guys always come through.
I take Zyrtec ( OTC antihistamine ) every morning and Singulair ( which is a prescription ) every night . I also use an air purifier in my bedroom at night and in the opposite corner of the bedroom I use a humidifier in winter also . Occasionally I take Motrin for sinus pain .
Be careful about long term use of decongestants . Using them too long can cause rebound congestion , even worse than the original congestion .
One time the doctor prescribed a steroid sinus rinse. I had to prepare it in a nasal spray bottle. It involved opening capsules and dissolving the powder in distilled water that was alittle warmer than room temperature.
nacy - good if you can enjoy the snow - from inside!!! It's snowing here again. Lots of snow. R's trailer got stuck in a field so he left it there. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day and he can get it out..
gershun - I'm sorry I know they can be very painful. Have you tried antihistamines? I never found the steroid spray helped me, but antihistamines and decongestants do. It has been shown that phenylephrine as in Tylenol sinus, doesn't work but pseudoephedrine does so you might look for an OTC med that has pseudoephedrine. There are a few such as SUDAFED® Maximum Strength Sinus Congestion.
I am on an antihistamine daily, and take a sudafed if I get a more stuffy nose and it helps,
I'm not blowing any snot. It's just sinus pressure.
I can't see my doc till Thursday. Anyone? Help!
A little bit is good.
My plants got watered,
the air is cleaned.
The day before the rain, there was so much all over pain in my body.
Now I recall there is something universal about that. People predicting rain
by their body pain?
Now I am going back to sleep.
My body has a schedule of its own.
Not always when I want to wake or sleep.
And that is changing.
Yesterday I did not wake up again until 11:00 a.m.
I want to do so much, but need to wait to feel better again.
Mal de debarquement syndrome (MdDS), or disembarkment syndrome is a neurological condition usually occurring after a cruise, aircraft flight, or other sustained motion event.
It could be that is why you feel 'weird' after your cruise.
Maybe your doctor can help you feel better and give you a reasonable diagnosis.
Many people, when faced with a vacation, will get sick before going. That part is a psychological illness.
If you are not feeling yourself, see a doctor.
cw - you said it well. Acceptance so changes our perspective.
psue - glad this was comforting to you. None of us can stop the ravages of disease or aging.
way - self preservation - absolutely!!! A lot of what I did or didn't do re mother was about self preservation.
hothouse - Yes!! Worrying doesn't change or fix things, but it hurts us. Giving up what one can't control is liberating. It is what it is.
The old serenity prayer is still a good one:
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”
I'll add "peace once I have figured it out". 🕊
I worried when I got these calls at first but after awhile I realized that there was not a damn thing I could do about it. If my mother wanted to go into the basement of her house, then that is what she was going to do. There was no controlling it. I wasn't her jailer.
I just gave it up to the gods and I became very fatalistic. Something was going to happen, it could be a fall in the basement or something equally miserable would that radically changed her trajectory. She had 94 good years and she wasn't going to live forever. That's just how it is.
My body is operating on DST, I'm waking up well before 6 and nodding off before 10, I'm looking to changing the clock so I'm back in sync with everyone else.

There is a fresh Daffodil popped out of the ground with ready to bloom buds.
There are some sunny days, and more to come.
It is Spring to me.
cw - snowing here too the last few days Ugh!!!
nacy - minus 27 F (-34C) here at night a few nights, with minus 11F (-24C) in the daytime Going up in few days thankfully. I'm happy to stay indoors.
itrr - Oh my goodness - that's a hot summer day for us. I'm OK till about 83 F then I'm done.
I can not imagine living in fridgid weather, hats off to all of you that can and do. Brrrr!
Loved, loved, loved best of all cars was my 1981 Toyota Corolla.
Because that's the one I bought from seeing it traveling down the freeway
with so few miles, and 'they' said it couldn't be done!
My car is 2005 = 20 years old and still runs, looks good.
What was the factor that made you buy a newer car?
nacy - seems light light therapy of one sort or another helps many things.
Well done, cw. 👏 I know what you mean!!! But heated seats and steering wheel will make up for a lot of learning. Last car I bought has heated seats but not steering wheel I wish I had that option!!! At 40 below it makes a big difference. (Not that it goes down to 40 below here.)
I was watching a video of someone skating on the streets of New Orleans, now that's gotta suck for all the people who don't have the infrastructure for that. Not to mention all the snowbirds who went south for a little warmth... doh!
Nah, I wouldn't do this either. Lol.
Do what I would do.
That is, follow Golden's advice to stay in bed.
