A good night's sleep, chocolate, the happiness and satisfaction of sharing on AgingCare forum. Does anyone have some favorite things to think about? Yes, this phrase is from the song in the movie "The sound of Music". My husband and I often resort to using movie lines and song to improve communication. We were the only two in a gathering of people who heard the background music playing. We both had the same (cassette tape/CD). A connection bringing two people together. To this day, we crack up when one uses a simple movie line to make a serious point.
SO, What is one of your favorite movie line, some of your favorite things?

Hubs and I didn't even know there was a lunar eclipse. We were watching CNN and they showed it. We looked out the window, saw it and were pretty underwhelmed to be honest. Glanced at it for a bit and then went back to watching t.v. LOL

The thing is CWillie, I buy only fast drying paint because I lack patience.
I was there!

Much in the same way you were:
I crashed after dH brought in a photo showing a tiny spot on the edge of the full moon. Then I woke up about 9:20. It was too hard to look out the bathroom window because the mini blind was unravelled and broken.

Waking again at my usual 3:00 a.m., I got up and saw the mini blind was re-strung by dH! In the night, while I was sleeping!
I carefully opened it, looked out, no moon whatsoever, just some fluffy white clouds.

However, I did all this inside, never went outside at all on Thursday.

Happy Friday!

One thing I learned from previous lunar eclipses is it's kind of like watching paint dry, you have to be a real night owl to sit through the whole thing 🤣. I crashed early but woke up around 12:30 and went out to gaze at the moon for a half hour or so, were you there too Send?

CWillie,
While I was sitting around, finding myself unable to go out due to sharp fibromyalgia pains shooting through both feet....
I discovered this after my nap:

The Moon is @ 100% Full now.
There is a partial Lunar Eclipse tonight, and the Moon will appear blood red.
Look up, towards the night sky.

Get dressed, we are all going outside, late. We will be seeing the same moon, at the same time, but the clocks will all be at different times.

Cwillie, (hopefully during short phases in life), we end up without any friends or a support group. In a better place than having to tolerate toxic friends or family.
It could be temporary, or maybe you are like many people, needing more alone time in between the social times.

If you choose to develop friendships, get out there when you can. Sit alone and choose people to talk to carefully. Go to a group meeting, maybe a 12-Step or a Sewing Circle. Go watch a 5 K run, even if you don't do the run. There are people there in the crowds.

Long ago, my psychiatrist actually recommended going to a 12-Step Group that you have nothing in common with. He was funny, always offering out-of-the-box
solutions. Many meant to jog you out of a stuck position and mindset by offering something so extreme that you choose something that is more normal to you. No, I don't have an example, except I did attend a few alcoholics anonymous meetings with a few different friends just to get them there and be supportive. It was a one-two time thing.

These days, volunteering at a food bank might be a good activity, going to lunch with the volunteers after the work is done.

Today, just getting someone to go grocery shopping with me is impossible. Especially hubs!!

Waiting for Fall, aren't we all?
Don't wait. Do a Google search online for Costco pumpkin pies, they will be out soon, late August.

A social life centered on food is okay with me.

Yes indeed Send, as a single person without any friend that are into the same things I am (or are part of an alternate indivisible group) I've had to learn that if I don't do things by myself I don't do things at all. I'm still sitting around doing nothing all too often but I'm working on it.

When the highlight of your day is waiting for the new electric bill to arrive after a Utility Conversion ....
because thinking about how high that bill will be has you anxious;
or there will be relief once all the August bills are paid;
that is no way to enjoy your day.

Go out for a coffee and avocado toast instead. Get your hair done. It is not selfish to take a morning for yourself. Try it, I said to myself. (After I consulted my Ai friend, lol.)

Stop waiting for something to happen, or for others to do something before you can get on with your own life.

Lilacs are my favorite, along with roses. I have a rose bush that just bloomed this week that is exceptionally fragrant. Please everyone, take time to smell whatever is in bloom, whenever you can! Thanks for these posts reminding us of the beauty this time of year.

Happy for you, send, and all who have flowers.

Found some lilac in bloom and also a maytree in bloom around the condo. The scent of the flowers is wonderful.

We had lilacs along our front walk when I was a child. They were always special to me.

I’m trying to nurse a tulip bulb back to life. It was one of my Easter flowers. I doubt I’ll be successful but it’s worth a try. Guess this belongs in the garden thread

Out my window....
A blooming sunflower
the size of a lunch plate.
Planted by the birds or a squirrel.

Amazing sight.

In a place that nothing beautiful was ever seen.

You're doing better than you think.
It's just taking longer than you want.
But you didn't quit.
And that matters.
So keep going.

I’m grateful for music and color. I was thanking God just yesterday while driving and enjoying my playlist and noticing how green and lush everything is right now, the sky so blue, flowers blooming… Color and music are true blessings.

@cwillie
I could take some cool in the weather! We have been up in the mid 90’s and the flowers are getting fried, despite my watering! Enjoying them while I can!!!! (Price paid for mild winters!)

Enjoy the lilacs—I remember those from childhood homes—LOVED them!!!

Giant gardenia bushes so full of blooms they look like big cotton balls, and smell like something from heaven, climbing jasmine in full bloom with the sweet smell of spring, a deep porch with cooling ceiling fans to enjoy it all!

cw - I wish. here I am still looking at a snow covered field and listening to a nature channel for birdsong. I remember back in Ontario in my childhood seeing snowdrops against the house in February as the first sign of spring.

Send – I appreciate the scriptures you shared.

All these Christmas cookies sound lovely. I was brought up on Norwegian Christmas cookies which are quite different but also very good.

A friend used to make apple cake and I got the recipe and it’s great. How many apples do you use, way? Her cake was fairly spicy.

I made an almond cake yesterday, but didn’t have enough almond flour so substituted some hazelnut flour and, Wow, . It was a great addition. I will do that again. I may make some shortbread this year.
