I am a senior. I have so many medical issues, & still able to take care of myself thank God. I have children and would never want to burden anyone let alone my grown children, I do not ask for help basically from any-one, but know I will require help sooner then later.I have read many of the gut wrenching stories of the family members that have cared for someone /or in no way wish to care for someone. All people whether old or young have breaking points. I came across this forum looking for info about a neighbor of mine, who is causing me anxietybecause I heard from others that he has no family, & is doing some crazy stuff, does not seem to be caring for himself or his apartment,(smells).I was looking for what do people do who know that this person needs help? I can make a phone call, but I am not able or willing to do more than that. This person is not my family, or friend but I know as a human I should do something. I believe in God & I believe "do on to others as you want done to you" is the best way to live. I would hope I would be shown the same concern if I needed it. Thank you for listening.

Call APS ASAP. APS does not identify the person that made the report. You can call in the report or file via the web.

Good Luck

APS is the only viable and sustainable solution. Your neighbor will get a court-assigned legal guardian and they will get him the medical and custodial help he needs, and transition him into a facility for his own protection and care. This is called a solution. This is what happened to my step FIL, and we were grateful for this solution since he was dead broke and not allowing anyone to become his legal representative yet thought we should all be orbiting around him helping him, with his Parkinsons and Lewy Body dementia. He'd fall and then call us to pick his 6'4" body up off the floor at midnight or clean up his diarrhea. No thank you.

Absolutely, call APS and report a vulnerable senior living alone in a potentially dangerous situation. If nothing is done, report him again. Sometimes it seems like no one in the world cares about anyone else, but that is not always the case. You are here as proof. I would do the same thing if I were you.

It sounds like the best thing you can do now for your neighbor is to call APS(Adult Protective Services)and report your concern for him and that he has no family. They will come out and do an assessment and if need be take things from there.
