Youre right captain im looking for a vet or carpenter? A vet to tend to my animals and a carpenter to build me a house i am thinking finding a vet who does carpentry maybe pushing it so marry a vet and have an affair with a carpenter OR visa versa!! Win win!!!!

And very funny Cap about "smells" i was out looking for my cat when my neighbour commented on the nice smell of chocolate i told her to pi.. off she wasnt getting any of it. Do you know theyve just moved in at xmas and have being doing the whole house up and STILL the vans are outside getting more crap done rubbing it in out faces!! Mums going mad (pardon the pun) with jealousy and im getting a bit peed myself i think theyve so much money they just want to show off you see i dont get it why buy a fairly decent maintenance free house then spends thousands making it look slightly better? Why not just buy the house you want to begin with? yeh think they are showing off and they think theyre going to eat my cake?

ive just never needed a thermometer ' cept for fudgemaking . when the boys would meander into the living room pretending to give a s*it about me , the baking was done .
for the last 6 years its been the same only with a big green parrot instead .
somehow they " know " ..

Yup, book, an instant-read thermometer is a pretty essential kitchen tool. Buy one new. Many other kitchen tools you can pick up at garage sales, estate sales, or thrift stores.

docs are effiminate creeps . get yourself a shady looking guy with some dirt under his fingernails . he'll be there for you long after the doc has been slammed for overwriting narcotic scripts .
book ,
when youre baking , the dish is done when the odor has become irresistable to everyone within 100 yards . its true . odor is mostly what i gauge by ..
i copped me some more chicken livers . i realized today that livers are over a buck a pound yet whole chicken quarters are 69 cents a pound . meh . the grain fed chicken tastes like styrofoam and then you haveta pick it off the bone and get grease clear to your elbows . no thanks . i want iron and i want it NOW . lol

So far, the best chili is from Wendy's. I usually buy that and a side salad as take out. Then bring it home and eat it with my white rice. Yum! Never fails, I always have "to go" the next morning.

I just knew that sis didn't cook rice. So, I bought some take outs (2) bowls of soup - chicken (sis) and beef (me). I threw mine into a small pot and threw in a cup of water. This restaurant always make their soup so salty.

I bought several recipes books (yes, captain, I know your viewpoint on this). {{chuckling}} I bought the book "Clueless in the Kitchen - A cookbook for Teens." I will read this first. I want to mark all the pages with simple ingredients and no oven/baking. Just from scanning it, they give great helpful hints like Practice Safe Beef... Mom never taught us to cook. And well, fave sis' cooking tends to come out bloody inside but burnt outside. Anyway.. I think I need to buy a meat thermometer. I guess I can't base on the meat being cooked just because the outside's burnt.

That sounds summery, sallie. Homemade, or from the deli? We had potato salad for a big gathering Saturday and we made it from oven-roasted potatoes. OMG -- I'll never boil potatoes for salad again!

chili dogs usedta be a 2 - 3 x per week thing at our house . if one of the boys asked me if i was only having a three dog night it meant they were going to liberate the remaining ones .
smashed red beans in the sauce gives it some real body and flavor . if you cook the hamburger then run it thru a hand grinder you get the fine topping like is found in the best resteraunt chilidogs .

JeanetteB, I vote for cereal. Cheerios with sliced bananas would be my choice.

Rice is high-carb, no matter its color. Doesn't mean you should never eat it, just realize that it does count as a carb!

My father always like rice with his chili. (White rice, and on the side, not mixed in.) There was a restaurant near where he worked that automatically added rice when he ordered chili for lunch. That is what my mother did, too, of course. The rice and bean combination is apparently a good source of protein, but when your chili has a lot of meat in it that isn't as important.

I took a stew out of the freezer and we are having that with watermelon, jicama salad, and rhubarb bread tonight.

I could use about six face cords of that wood for the winter if you can drop it off sometime before the snow flies.

Homemade chili tonight. That's normally a cold-weather dish for us, and it's been in the high 70's today, but I had a pound of hamburger out and it was either that or spaghetti - and I'm really trying to watch the carbs. So even though chili is not exactly low-carb, it was a better option than the pasta. (I didn't have any spaghetti squash or miracle noodles on hand to sub for the pasta.)

Went out for late lunch with my Mom and daughter. I tucked her in a corner booth table so she couldn't see any other patrons. It went all right, sher couldn't see anyone to embarrass me.

So no supper. Probably just a snack later...

if you are starting with raw bacon well any bacon I cook i lay flat on a baking sheet and bake in oven-less messy! make sure its about 2/3 cooked. After I roll spears on olive oil I wrap one bacon slice around each spear. I roast in oven at 350 for about 20 minutes. I live in Wisconsin and I will continue to harvest asparagus through July fourth weekend. We are usually pretty tired of asparagus by that time.

Veronica, so sorry you are having swallowing difficulties, that seems like it would be a nuisance, to say the least. Hope the docs figure it out soon. Doesn't hurt to do elimination diet, get rid of foods like dairy that commonly do cause allergies and see how you feel.

I'm eating pretty poorly for past week, lots of take out and delivery of pizza and asian dishes... lots of fried, oily, heavy foods. By now I'm so sick of eating like that and I went to grocery finally because that was the real problem, I was out of most things at the house so just ordered in a few nights in a row. So back to lots of veggies. I'm trying to get nutritional consult for my father, either through VA or through his new PCP because I think it would help him to learn what foods are better for him... and he doesn't listen to me, he needs to hear from another "professional" source.

I am putting Turmeric on just about everything I eat these days. It has such a mild flavor and supposed to be so beneficial for you. It does stain things a yellow-orange color so have to be a little bit careful with it. But... yeah, it goes on everything now. :-)

bookluvr, all I knew is that I like it, so I looked it up with you. Turns out it is a very healthy veggie! Lots of potassium, vitamin C, antioxidants, etc. Low calorie and low carb. Not many things I discover and like turn out to be that good for me!

Strips of jicama (hee-cama) are good on a crudites plate for scooping up dips. I like it in stir-fries, too -- it has a texture like water chestnuts but a fresher flavor.

And Captain, I wouldn't consider a salad of jicama and cucumber to be a fruit salad. :) Like your song lyrics, though.

57twin, when you start from raw bacon, how do you do the asparagus? You said that you pre-cook the bacon, right? Then do you just roast the asparagus (with olive oil?) and toss the bacon on at the end?

There are probably only a few more days to the asparagus season here (Zero asparagus at farmers' market Sunday -- stores have it from Michigan) and I'd like to try that.

(We are planting asparagus this fall.)
