Growing up, I watched my young grandmother care for her mother-in-law, my great-grandmother as she aged. For more than ten years, I witnessed the love, patience, and sacrifice it took to keep her comfortable and cared for at home. When my great-grandmother eventually passed, the experience left a lasting mark on our family. My grandmother was never the same, and through that journey I came to understand how deeply aging affects not only aging adults, but the families who love and support them. My grandmother often felt alone carrying the responsibility of caregiving, and she felt that she lost years because of the time and work required to care for her mother-in-law. She felt that she had no help or support in the job and responsibility. Seeing the toll it placed on her forever shaped my understanding of the importance of support, compassion, and proper care for both aging adults and their loved ones!
In my early adult years, I had the privilege of working with older adults through my involvement with The Salvation Army. One of my responsibilities was visiting older adults at different care facilities. During each visit I realized that many older adults do not truly want much, they just simply want to go back to their homes with their families. They long for the comfort of familiar surroundings, treasured routines, and the peace of being near the people they love. Witnessing this desire time and time again touched my heart. It saddened me to see so many people feeling isolated and confined, and it further strengthened my belief that home is where dignity, comfort, and security truly are.
My husband, Rich, and I had always shared a dream of owning a business together, one that allowed us to serve others while making a meaningful impact in our community. Rich brings over 20 years of experience in sales, along with a heart for leadership and connection. I bring my background as a schoolteacher and my years of working with aging adults through community service. Together, our skills and passions naturally aligned with senior care.
