We are just caregivers. We cannot know your father's situation, his needs, his insurance. We can only give you general information. Please ask his doctor for a referral for social services.

I can tell you that if a hospital bed is already needed you may be looking at Hospice end of life care. If that is so you will have a great deal of help in that a social worker is provided and much hospital equipment.

Dependent on all the "details" of your father's care, and where you live, what his insurance is, there will be many and varied answers. Start with his medical team for referrals to places to check. Also contact your local Council on Aging and Department of Human Services.

Talk to the hospital social worker for rescources. Free help is either you, friends or family members who pitch in.
American Cancer Society is an amazing organization. I've used them in the past when caring for my Mom with end stage colon cancer. There is a lot of rescources/support in urban areas/regions. If you're in a rural/farm region-there is very little. I've been a caregiver in both examples, in a rural area now-it's not good.
Are you going to be the primary caregiver? There will be a lot of advice, suggestions and experiences shared here about that. All of it valid and very, very diverse.
People will ask for details about your situation-they aren't being nosey-but it helps us to parse out what to suggest.
