My 83 yr. old Mother has been in this Nursing home/Rehab since 2-4-16. Rehab for18 days and Medicare stopped paying due to non-responsive, due to vascular Dementia. This is the second month to pay over $10,000 per month for her care until I can find a long term facility that I truly have checked out. No one is calling me back. Mom wears an ostomy and I've had to change all but 4 times. She wears a pull-up, but begs to go to bathroom.. At times she smells, Ive ask and they tell me they can't force to take a bath. Mom would be so upset if she knew the smell. The CNAS and a Nurse love her, so they say and Mom seems to like them. I've ask about in home care-24/7, $400.00 per day. She doesn't have that kind of money. I've hit every Nursing home in Roanoke/Salem VA., area, and if they are so fancy, they don't give you the time of day. The one Mom's in now, concentrates on the outward appearance than the patient's room. Mom is on a pureed diet, but doesn't need to be and she won't eat and I've begged them to re-avaluate her a month ago, NOTHING. I bring her food and she eats so good. When I go and talk to the Administrators about Mom coming to their facilities, and before I leave, they say "I'll call you as soon as I make a decision. No calls, Do I pester them? Are there any monetary help out there for people like my Mom? I always told Mom that I would not put her in a Nursing Home, but this has gotten to much for me to take it on by myself and also, I live an hour and half away with my Family and I've been living here off and on for 5 years, but since this major stroke happened this past January, it's gotten worse to help her. She knows her family , but still is very confused. Haas anyone ever heard of Public Partnership and how they help with different situations? Does Medicaid pay for any In-home care? I put paying for care in the Topic, but I also would like any information about Nursing Homes and any help there. I've even emailed U.S NEws and world about all of this. They had an article online about Nursing homes and different situations. I need all the help I can get, because this Nursing home Mom is in now is trying to keep that extremely outrageous amount of $10,000 per month going and keep her there. They feel like they have me backed in a corner. I can't even understand that amount due to the food, the rooms, the care, their remodeling the 2 activity rooms (which already are fine) with new fireplaces and gosh knows what else, even the residence there say they should put that money on their rooms, food, and care! I want to make a difference in making this Assisted Living/Nursing home facilities in this large area held accountable for how they are presenting their facilities and only the people that have money get first availability. It's like how much money does your Mom have? That has been the first question each time! I guess you get what I'm trying to ask. I'm sorry I got off the subject, but I'm so tired and don't know what to do. Shayes57
It takes a lot of money to run a nursing home, around the clock payroll is probably their largest cost, then comes the mortgage on the building, property tax, building/liability insurance, cost of food for all the residents, laundry expense, housekeeping, electric/gas/water cost, maintenance crew, lawn crew, the list goes on and on.
To help you check out other nursing homes in your area, go to the top right of this page where you see SEARCH SITE, type in your Mom's zip code, and up should pop a list of continuing care facilities. Ask the facilities if they have a waiting list and if there is a "bed hold" cost that is refundable if Mom doesn't go there. Beds fill up very quickly due to people being released from the hospital who need rehab/long-term-care.
I am surprised the nursing home doesn't use the wash wipes to help clean your Mom, and the waterless shampoo for her hair.
