Last night my husband wet himself twice. It makes him absolutely frantic, as if it's the worst thing that ever happened. So, I have to calm him down enough to get the wet pajamas off him, pull off the wet bed pad, throw the dirty laundry down to the basement, etc. He's somewhere between Stage 5 and 6, and can walk to the bathroom, if I wake him before he wets.
Have you had success with some system that works for an adult male?

Thank you all for your thoughts. Yes, he wears disposable briefs and they're fine during the day since he's awake and knows he needs to pee. I've tried many, many other disposable briefs but the CVS brand seems to work best. Some touted as "leakproof" were the worst. I will try adding extra padding after I get him up the first time.

I am actually trying to hire carers to stay in the bedroom and get him up every two hours while I sleep across the hall, but not having much luck. I haven't had a night of uninterrupted sleep in months!

And yes, he's seen a urologist and his prostate is okay. The alarm idea was just a long shot and probably wouldn't have worked anyway, since it is hard to get him up when I come to bed.

Finally, I apologize to everyone who was offended by my language. I was trying to distinguish urinary incontinence from fecal incontinence (which, sometimes, I also have to deal with.) I'll see if there is some way to edit my subject line.

Most alarms will go off AFTER the incident.
You can try using a disposable pull up brief at night (I am presuming he dies not have a problem during the day. If not that may change soon so you will need them anyway.
What you can do is if he goes to bed before you do get him up when you get ready to go to bed. Then. .and this is the kicker maybe about 2 am get up and get him to the bathroom again.
If he will wear a condom catheter that might solve your problem.
The challenge with that is most dementia patients "fiddle" with them and try to remove them. (a reason why most MC facilities will not accept a person with "tubes" chances are good that an internal or surgical catheter or feeding tubes are going to be pulled out creating more problems)

Oh...your husband is not a "bedwetter" he is incontinent

The alarm will wake you up, Then you go through the gymnastics of all you have to do to get him dry again, then you're supposed to go back to sleep so you can rise when he does and cheerfully cook him breakfast. You will not thrive under this plan.

When my husband started to become incontinent, I took him to a urologist for an exam. My thinking was that if there was anything that could be done, the urologist would know what it was. There wasn't anything to do except buy a great carpet cleaning machine, some tablets to thoroughly clean the dishwasher for when he peed in it, and stock up on "briefs" to contain the ongoing mess.

There might be meds that could help your husband. If I were you, I'd take him to a urologist for the peace of mind that comes from knowing you consulted an expert. Then build a dike.

JoAnn, an enlarged prostate causes many symptoms, one which is frequent urination, especially at night, because the bladder may not empty completely and fills back up sooner. The sensation may be tricking him into thinking his bladder is emptied when it's not, then overflowing at night. About 70% of older men develop prostate problems so it would make sense to check it and there may be something like a medication that would help him. But he really needs disposable briefs first and foremost.

My husband has problems. Yes, early on he did go frequently but very little at a time. Eventually, the prostate gets so enlarged, you can't pee. Then its usually removed.

Your husband is now incontinent. Mom was pretty much at the same stage when she started wearing Depends pullups. I would also get a water proof paid to protectvthe mattress.

Its time to take him to the bathroom every 2 hrs. Cut down on his liquid intake at night.

You can most certainly set your phone alarm to go off every 2 hours so you can take him to the bathroom, but you both most certainly will be exhausted by day 2 don't you think?
Instead make sure he's wearing some kind of adult diaper(but don't call them that to him)with a extra pad made for men to also tuck inside to absorb more pee. He will still be wet but hopefully not as wet as without the added protection.
And like already suggested, throw away all of his old underwear and replace them with his "new" underwear Depends.
Or you may have to now talk to his urologist about some kind of catheter for him, so you both can get better rest.

My late husband ended up having to get a supra pubic catheter because his incontinence was off the charts and neither of us got much if any sleep until he got it. That's kind of a drastic solution but for us both it was a Godsend as it allowed us both to finally after almost a year to be able to sleep through the night.
I wish you well in getting this figured out before you drop from exhaustion.

Is he not wearing incontinence briefs? If not, why not?

If he's not, throw out all his cloth undies and supply only briefs. You don't have to give any explanation except, "These will keep you dry all night".

Has he had his prostate checked lately?
