Mom, 79, will often get angry and start cursing and insulting me, which I've read about a thousand times. People with dementia do that, I get it.
QTIP: Quit taking it personally. I can do that.

What I CAN'T find are any accounts of a patient mocking their caregiver in a childlike voice, sucking her fingers, rolling her eyes, saying "Hi I'm Carrie and I can't wait to put my mama away so I can take all her money and wun away wiff Paul so we can (vulgar act here) just like I do with all the boys!!
<More finger sucking and hair twirling and eye rolling.>

"Paul" is a complex delusion and a hallucination that has been in her head for 5 years.

Then if I react, she giggles and keeps talking like Shirley Temple... "Awww...did the pretty wittle fat baby get her feewings hurt? Whatamatta wiff da baby girl??"

I leave the room. Sometimes she follows. If I pretend to be asleep she'll drift away.

It is SO CREEPY. It really is the stuff of nightmares.

I'll be so relieved when she's in memory care. We have 5 days until the move.

75mg Quetiapine does nothing except lessen the hallucinations slightly.

Blue,

Take a break from your mom. Plan a vacation and sit under a palm tree with a tall drink! I am not joking. Your mind needs a rest from all of this. Hire someone to check in on mom if you must.

Shew! Thank you for that! I'm worn flat out, and while I was typing this she walked in to tell me I don't care about anybody but myself. My husband and I have planned a trip to Northern California to look up, up, up at the giant redwoods. We live in Virginia and both work on a tree farm with much shorter trees. :-)

I am starting to get visions of Linda Blair here. At least there is so far no green emesis.

I think when they move into memory care the suggestion is that you do not visit for some weeks. Talk about a deserved vacation, woman.

Do update us when mom goes to her new home.
And do expect them to come to suggest a trip to the MD for some good sedation!
On the other hand, Mom may provide some quality entertainment there.

Let us know when Mom goes into care.

That is creepy as hell. Glad you only have to endure it for 5 more days.

That’s disturbing . Maybe an underlying second personality coming out ?? 🤷‍♀️

I thought of this too! In which case there may be more underlying personalities.

A Study Just came out from Harvard That the brain Of a Elderly Dementia Patient is No Different then a person with schizophrenia - The Nuerotransmitters are Misfiring and what ever hallucinations they are having is real to them . Plus there is brain Damage . She doesnt Know what she is saying or doing . So dont take it Personally . I had one brother with schizophrenia His hallucinations were rather Grand involving Louis the 14 , The Queen of Stuttgart and On - This was His protection . Then there were other times he was completely Normal and held a conversation with me for 5 hours . The other brother his hallucinations were of torture being Burnt by cigarettes by witches - Over time and medication he was able to hold a Job at the department Of mental health and work the crisis hot line and Have his own apartment . Both brothers have Passed Primarily from the heavy medications such as Clozaril and smoking . My Mother came down with Dementia ( But I did not Know ) and Brought her to the Doctors because she kept falling Over Piles of paperwork and I was shocked when she spoke In a Little girl Voice to the Doctor . I had Never heard this Voice before . I said to the doctor " What is Going On ? " I had No idea . Then my Father got sick with Vascular Dementia , OCD behavior , Mania and Alzheimers . I am surprised I am still standing . The Manic Behavior was very difficult to deal with . Take that trip .

@KNance

I have cared for all kinds. Elderly with dementia and younger people with mental illness.

I can tell you for a fact that the "baby talk" from my demented clients was never a problem. When someone is ignored long enough, they stop. Or when they get hungry. Or when they want something.

I have also never had a problem stopping my mental care clients when they'd start up with the manicial laughter and the acting up.
I always found the threat of calling 911 and having either brought to the hospital works to get them under control. When it doesn't, that's when you actually call 911.

I'm so glad your mom is going to be moving memory care, it sure will be a relief to you. Don't ever doubt your decision! I would find that behavior to be scary. I'm glad to see that BurntCaregiver has experienced this and it isn't just something with your mom. Go take that vacation!

It's pretty common behavior, Graygrammie. I've had clients who did the 'child/baby' talk and the mimicking. When they don't get the response they want when they do it, they lose interest in it and move onto something else.

You will love Northern California, where I have lived since 1967. I used to live in Hampton, Virginia before we moved here.
The weather has been amazing as usual.
Hearing what others have gone through makes me feel almost lucky my Mom died in 2000.
I wish all of you PEACE.

Me too. I love it out there. Very expensive but awesome. I don't know what San Francisco is like now with tents lined on the sidewaks, but it was beautiful back when I was there.
