CCoping with depression

Find Care & Housing
I'm sorry you're carrying such a heavy burden. Good advice has been given to you (talk to your doctor, get outside yourself). I don't know whether you're a person of faith, but if you're open to it, these passages have brought comfort, hope and healing to me during dark seasons:

• "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34 18

This is one of the gentlest verses in Scripture. It doesn't deny pain; it says God draws near to people in the thick of it.

• "Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28–30

This is Jesus' own invitation. It doesn't require someone to have everything figured out first.

• "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed... His mercies are new every morning." Lamentations 3:21–26

New mercies every morning = hope!

Even if you're not sure what you believe, these words of love and truth will be a balm for your soul. You don't have to carry your heaviness alone. May you receive peace in your heart.

I hope you’re having your depression addressed by your doctor. There are several good medications to help. My dad was helped by Zoloft in his last years, it helped lift his sadness and make his days better. The best way to not focus on your issues is to help others with theirs. Find a place to volunteer with a cause that helps others, it will help and get you out among others. I wish you healing and peace

is there a church nearby that you could join or volunteer at? I understand people with depression may not be in a mindset to volunteer.

I believe the very best way to keep yourself busy especially if you suffer from depression is to get out there and volunteer at the many charitable organizations in your area.
There is something so very powerful and healing about helping others in need and less fortunate than us.
I'm sure if you Google volunteer opportunities in your area, you'll be shocked just how many pop up.
You can also join your local YMCA as they always have a lot of extra things going on for seniors along with getting some good exercise which is always good for the soul(and body)when you're feeling down.
