It seems this discussion took a tangent when liz1906 suggested "long distance marriages" as the way of the present, and that OP should get on board.

If two people live apart, live separate lives, don't share a home, don't spend time together, don't share life's daily joys and challenges, why would they be married?
Marriage is a coming together of two people to share in supporting one another through their daily routines, to share goals, to share bills, to have dinner with someone. I don't understand why anyone would marry someone and not share a life together. Or it's some kind of front or con.

This OP's wife left. Without giving a timeline for coming home. Without consulting with her partner. Without considering the emotional and financial needs of the partner. That is just selfish and irresponsible.
