needhelpwithmom, yes we were with a lot of misbehaved “kids” where there terrible behavior always seems to get rewarded. We have had people in the past let go for their appalling behavior only to return back to work a year later with ALL their back pay INCLUDING OVERTIME PAY!!! We had a supervisor that finally got walked out for screaming at all of us employees 6 months ago and now she is back with all her back pay. Luckily she works in a different department now. Thankfully they supply us with our masks.

Elaine,

Geeeez, I’m glad she isn’t in your department. This is a time when everyone should be working together, not against each other.

I am mailing masks all over as I finish sewing them. Our postal workers are working very hard. I thank you so much for your hard work.

Needhelpwithmom, thank you so much for making the masks and sewing them. Everyone appreciates your masks you made and thank you for mailing them!! I was working briefly with a 20 something year old girl who has only been with the postal service 6 months and she is a pse, not a regular employee yet. Pse stands for postal support employee. They made it mandatory to wear a mask. My supervisor said she was wearing a thong. I said it’s not around her face. He couldn’t send her to a different machine for another 30 minutes so I told her they said you need to wear a mask. They did make an announcement over the loudspeakers to wear a mask. She told me no, I wasn’t her boss, I would never be her boss, and told me to go F$$k off! I walked away and told my supervisor. I also wrote up a report on her. They moved her and she was wearing cloth over her eyes and nose.

Elaine,

Obviously, this woman is a troublemaker. It would serve her well to comply with regulations, heed your wonderful example of doing what is right, not only as an employee but as a fellow citizen that is respectful of others.

It is sad to hear of these instances. Sorry that you have to deal with defiant behavior of fellow workers.

I don’t mind making masks. They aren’t hard to do. It feels good to be contributing to others in need. We are fortunate to have a wonderful mayor and governor at this time. I can’t say that all of our past mayors or governors have been to my liking. As long as our governor requests that we wear our masks I will make and donate them.

Let’s just say, Louisiana has had some colorful politicians, many of whom were an embarrassment for our state! I wouldn’t even quote some of them to give them any credence. It’s better to focus on moving forward.

It's been a few days, and here I am again... Went and got take out.. Support our fast food, or good fast food places.. Waiting for my food, when this guy came in to order... I didn't realize at first what his issue was... HE WASN'T WEARING A MASK !!

And they let him in, stand 4 feet in front of cashier with a list of food... Oh my Gosh.. I stuck my tongue out at him!!! He didn't notice... I HAD MY MASK ON :-0

So, it just seems like this is becoming the normal.. BUT I AM GETTING REALLY TIRED OF STANDING IN LINE TO GET TOILET PAPER - I MEAN getting into a store, and then GETTING out of the store... Frustrating.
Today I heard.. this is very sad... But some of the people who were hoarding all the toilet paper are returning it so they can afford actual food. It's weird how the thoughts of minds go wihen they hear "pandemic" or "crisis".. Instantly.. it goes down... I have acquired enough to last our family for a month, or so... Recycle!!
Today at Sprouts.. the signs went out: "ONLY 2 PACKAGES OF MEAT PER FAMILY..ONLY 2 PACKAGES OF CHICKEN PER FAMILY..
If they go as far as 2 packages of dry beans.. then perhaps.. I will think a bit diffeently...
Yesterday, talked with a friend on East Coast. Neighbor's yard was filling up with manure.. Asked what was happening... : Well, the mushroom growers are not growing mushrooms as much, due to the restaurants not in operation.. so they don't have reason to purchase or pickup the manure to grow the mushrooms... I didn't even realize that.. This is impacting everyone... It is down right .... I guess it was getting kind of smelly... well you can get my whiff.... :(

I feel the same way about it. People should be wearing masks. It’s sad. It truly is.

NANOFIBER MASK,, FABRIC MANUFACTURED IN OKLAHOMA FILTERS.

BUSINESSINSIDER.COM

nanofiber fabric to insert in the filter pockets of cloth masks, filtering effectivness was tested using same machines used to test N95 maskes and was found to be better at filtering than the shop towel, but does not sound like it's washable.
A friend texted this to me.. So people, do your homework.. I have not looked this up yet, as I don't sew :( Thought I would share it, since she is a good friend, and her sister ordered fabric to make some.

Mayday,

So, do we use it as an insert? I guess we do if it isn’t a washable material.

I sewed some masks that do not have inserts. I made them with three or four layers of fabric. Then I made some with the pocket to use inserts which are thrown away after each use. I am following the patterns that are recommended by the CDC.

I am still sewing masks because I keep getting requests for them. Remember that in our state, Louisiana, the governor has requested that we wear masks anytime we are in public, such as a grocery, out for a walk, cycling, picking up take out food, etc.

I think you use it as an insert, or underlying maybe safety pins if need be.

I've been playing around making a couple of different styles of masks and I've got to say I'm not impressed with any of them. Given that we are never likely going to duplicate an n95 level of filtration - nor do we need to - I don't get the point of making masks that are so bulky and uncomfortable. From my experimentation even 2 layers of tightly woven fabric are difficult to breath through and hot and without fail leaked around the edges, which renders them almost useless. The two surgical masks from the back of my cupboard are lightweight and comfortable, the closest I've come to duplicating them is the first mask I cobble together from a folded blue shop towel, a stapler and 2 rubber bands - definitely not pretty but I'm inclined to think that's good enough for me.

cwille,

I would wear the one that you feel most comfortable with and the best fit.

Everyone has given me positive feedback to the ones I have made. I keep getting requests for more.

They do need to fit correctly. Their purpose is to protect others from us. They will not protect us from them as much as an N95 masks. Even then, it isn’t 100 percent. I know a nurse who got Covid-19 that had all the right hospital gear on.
