We have purchased a transfer/lift chair for my husband. The type that backs up to his chair or bed and then you connect the sling he is sitting on to the lift. The lift go up and the lift chair can be moved where you need him to go. It comes with a seat which has a toilet sized hole in it. I can remove this diaper and clean him through this hole. How do I rediaper him in the lift?

That sounds like more of a challenge than I would attempt myself.

Is there a reason you can not lay him down on a bed for diaper changes?
I have, at times, considered changing my husband's diaper while he is sitting in his recliner, using the lift to lift him off the surface, but the sling is too tight against his body to really successfully place a new diaper.

According to AI on Google,

Changing an adult diaper in a lift sling is easiest when done in two stages: lifting to access the legs, then lowering the user to finish the change. Alternatively, use a specialized split-leg sling or a hygiene-specific sling, which allows full access to the groin without removing the sling. [1, 2, 3]

Step-by-Step Guide

Elevate and Release: Using the mechanical lift, raise the individual just enough so their bottom clears the bed or wheelchair. Carefully unfasten the tabs on the soiled diaper. [1, 2]

First Drop: Lower the individual slightly so their weight is supported by the surface. Pull the front of the diaper down between their legs. [1, 2]
Roll and Clean: Fold and roll the soiled diaper inward to contain waste, then pull it out from under the patient. Thoroughly wipe the perineal area from front to back, apply barrier cream, and ensure the skin is completely dry. [1, 2, 3]

Position the New Diaper: Slide the new clean diaper under the patient, with the absorbent side facing up and the adhesive tabs located in the back. [1, 2]

Lift Again to Pull Up: Use the lift again to raise the person slightly off the surface. Pull the front of the diaper up between their legs and secure it to the back section, making sure the fit is snug but not uncomfortably tight. [1]

Lower and Finish: Lower the individual safely, unhook the lift, and adjust the diaper tabs if necessary. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Pro-Tips for Caregivers

Diapering on the Chair: If changing in a wheelchair, a common approach suggested by caregivers is to lay out an open diaper and snap-sided shorts on the chair seat before lowering the individual down, allowing you to fasten it easily as they are lowered. [1]

Hygiene Slings: If this is a daily challenge, consider using a Split-Leg Sling or a Leg Lifting Hygiene Sling. These slings allow you to cross the support strips or move the leg loops out of the way for unrestricted cleaning without needing to remove the whole system. [1, 2]

Leak Prevention: Some caregivers find success by placing a feminine pad (or "chux") inside the front of the brief right before the transfer to stop accidents or spills from migrating. [1]

Disclaimer: Always consult with your occupational therapist (OT) or physical therapist (PT) to choose the best sling and technique for your specific medical equipment and the individual's mobility restrictions.

If you Google "how to diaper an adult in a lift sling carrier" you'll see YouTube instructional videos come up. Me? I'd get a consultation with an Occupational therapist to show me how to do it and walk me through the process.

Good luck to you.
