I feel I miss so much because people use acronyms such as as SNF and I have no idea what it means. Is there a list somewhere I can refer to.

OP = Original poster (you, or the person who posted the question)
LO = Loved One (usually the person receiving the care)
NH = Nursing Home
SNF = Skilled Nursing Facility
AL = Assisted Living
MC = Memory Care
LTC = Long Term Care
ALZ = Alzheimers
UTI - Urinary Tract Infection
POA = Power of Attorney
DPOA = Durable Power of Attorney
PD = Parkinsons Disease
LBD = Lewy Body Dementia
FTD = Frontaltemporal Dementia
MIL = Mother-in-Law
FIL = Father - in-Law
SFIL, SMIL = Step MIL or FIL


There are more but these are the basic ones.

Thanks for this. It was helpful to see how many medical terms we use which not everyone can understand. As a health professional, I forget about how many acronyms we use on this site. It is also the same for those of us who have been caring for the elderly for years. To us it is second nature, but I think it may be overwhelming for new followers or people embarking on their first caregiving experience. I would urge anyone using this site to continue to ask about this if they don't understand what we are saying. We are happy to help you. It can be a totally new vocabulary.
