My mom is 93 and just started living with us (my husband and I) My 87 yr old dad just recently passed away.. she never drove and had an id that she got back in 1997... Besides her address changing to our address, does she really need a new ID? I told her and she said "why do I need one, I'm not going anywhere.. besides the grave"... Does she need a new ID ..I really don't know, none of our bills are in her name ..so maybe she doesn't?

I'm in the camp of getting her a new state ID now. Why wait for a crisis where she needs an updated one for some unforeseen reason? My 105-yr old Aunt in FL never drove and has one. County and state rules change all the time, so if medical clinics and hospitals (in her state) currently accept expired IDs this may not be true next year.

It is a good idea to get a new up to date ID for these reasons.
When you take her to the doctor most often they will ask for Medical Insurance card and a photo ID . The info should match.
If she were to get lost/wander having a current ID is important for anyone that may try to help her or Police or Paramedics.
Probably does not need the "Enhanced or Real ID" so no need to gather all the other info.

I assume she is not flying anywhere?
If that's the case I cannot imagine why she would need a new ID.
She is now 97 and I cannot imagine her going anywhere without you. As long as you are there, I think she is just fine.
You might speak with the DMV about how easy it is to get another simple ID card for her; she may not even need to show up.

Most doctors offices and hospitals will take an expired license/ID, and I'm guessing your 93 year old mom won't be flying anywhere soon, nor will she be going out without either you or your husband, so I don't personally believe that she or you need to worry about an ID.
My late husband used his expired drivers license for many years which he only needed when he went to the doctors or the hospital.
So unless she's planning an overseas trip in the near future, I wouldn't give this ID thing another thought.

Yes, she needs one. What if she gets lost? What if you need to go on a flight? Or get a room. Check into the hospital,,,,etc. etc,
When my Mom could no longer drive, we called her ID her "walking license".

It’s normal to be asked for a picture ID when checking into the hospital or a new doctor’s office. If she plans to vote, she will need it. Better to have it than be caught in a jam without one
