My mom is 93 and just started living with us (my husband and I) My 87 yr old dad just recently passed away.. she never drove and had an id that she got back in 1997... Besides her address changing to our address, does she really need a new ID? I told her and she said "why do I need one, I'm not going anywhere.. besides the grave"... Does she need a new ID ..I really don't know, none of our bills are in her name ..so maybe she doesn't?
When you take her to the doctor most often they will ask for Medical Insurance card and a photo ID . The info should match.
If she were to get lost/wander having a current ID is important for anyone that may try to help her or Police or Paramedics.
Probably does not need the "Enhanced or Real ID" so no need to gather all the other info.
If that's the case I cannot imagine why she would need a new ID.
She is now 97 and I cannot imagine her going anywhere without you. As long as you are there, I think she is just fine.
You might speak with the DMV about how easy it is to get another simple ID card for her; she may not even need to show up.
My late husband used his expired drivers license for many years which he only needed when he went to the doctors or the hospital.
So unless she's planning an overseas trip in the near future, I wouldn't give this ID thing another thought.
When my Mom could no longer drive, we called her ID her "walking license".
