I am her daughter and I will be in Ga. and she is moving to Fla. Mother is poor. The only thing she receives each month is ger social security check which is barely enough to make ends meet. Are there programs that will help her for free provided by medicare or such?
If she is not going to be living with him, she should move into an apartment where the rent is sliding scale based - they determine what you can afford to pay. My MIL did this for many years because she was also poor and besides a little money in the bank she only got a small SS check monthly and only paid $200 in rent.
Good luck.
Her SS. Is she getting all she deserves? I worked with a woman who was divorced after 20 yrs of marriage and a widow for almost that long. She had always worked. She needed to retire and the amt she would be getting she could not live on. I asked if she had told them she had been married and was a widow, she said no. She went back to SS and they adjusted her SS and received enough more to retire.
Mom may qualify for Supplement Income called SSI. She needs to go to Social Services to see what she in entitled to when she gets to Fla. Medicare is health insurance. Medicaid is health insurance but provides in home care and transportation. Mom should talk to the Office of Aging in County she will be living in. There maybe resources for both her and her brother.
