Depends are not enough for overnight incontinence. Even with an extra pad.
He needs tab style briefs - Adult Diapers, in Ultra absorbency.
Even then, diapers do leak.
You can change it overnight or early in the morning to minimize the leakage.
Best to get disposable bed pads to place underneath him. I use one on top of another, so I can remove the wet or soiled one, and still have a dry pad underneath.
Just be prepared to change his shirt in the morning. You will be changing clothing more often as well as bedding, and washing daily. I have lots of fitted sheets which I replace daily, and I buy smaller blankets, such as large throw-size or twin blankets because I wash at least a blanket a day.
If this become more than you can manage on your own, it is time for him to be placed in a care home with professional help.

My husband is incontinent and sleeps a long time, so the pad underneath him is wet almost every morning. If his shirt comes in contact with the wetness, it will wick it up the back of the shirt.
I don't mind changing diapers and I don't mind doing extra laundry. But, we are all different, for many this is a deal-breaker.

The staff at mom's memory care facility wake her up in the middle of the night and get her to the bathroom to reduce soaked bed pads. They also get her up at about 6 am she says.

Yes you're going to have to get up over night and change his diaper if you're not wanting him to wake up with "his shirt tail wet." Probably not the answer you wanted but it's the sad truth.
And if his incontinence is getting to much for you it may be time to look into having him placed in memory care, as often it is incontinence that ends up being the final straw that will break the camels back.
I wish you well as I know first hand just how hard this is on you.

He must be changed once during the night or the very early morning hours.
