I’m 70 years old raising my two grandchildren and I can’t afford the expense need help

Find Care & Housing
Sometimes, when a grandparent ends up with custody or raising their grandchildren, CPS might have been involved in taking custody away
from the parent(s).

For whatever reason, if this is similar to your circumstances
(and I am not saying it is)
you could ask for help from the social worker handling the CPS case.

(CPS is Child Protective Services, with government benefits.)

Sorry, as said this is a Caregiver forum with members from all over the US and other countries. Your County should have a Office of Aging. See if there isca program for home renovations.

You need to look at finding someone else to be a guardian of your grandkids if something happens to you. If you cannot afford a new roof, you need to start today planning for the future of your grandkids. Emergencies will continue to pop up and you need to have a better plan than asking for help from strangers that cannot help you. If their parents have passed away or are disabled, check into Social Security benefits for them at the very least.

If AI sent you here, that info is incorrect. We are just a bunch of former or current caregivers to loved ones who share info on this forum. Check with your homeowners insurance about whats covered. Or start a GoFundMe charity to raise money.

Good luck.

Our local senior center coordinates with the Area Agency on Aging and provides free services via their Handiworker's Program.

You would need to apply.

If it rains, and you have major leaks, the Fire Department may come out and drape your roof with a tarp, but that is not promised or their role.

That's all I've got, but others may have better suggestions.

catj1955, welcome to the forum. There comes a time when home expenses can no longer be budgeted, and when that happens one needs to think about selling to get out from under those costs. Roof today, next week the appliances or plumbing.

If you live in a large metro area, there should be senior apartments that one can rent at a lower than normal cost, depending on your income from social security and any retirement benefit.

I suggest that you contact your Local Senior Center or other Senior Service center in your area and ask if there are any programs that may help.
This Forum is reaching people all over the world and is generally people that are caring for loved ones. So "we" would not be able to help.
