Replacing the much lamented 'On My Mind' profile option, this thread is for musings, jottings, whimsies, preoccupations and the rest of the thesaurus for anyone to jot down anything they please.
I can't remember what the maximum character count was before, can anyone else? But anyway it wasn't very many so let's keep to that.
I have just one thing to express to you. YOU, GO GIRL!
You should be so proud of your accomplishments!
That Korean spa sounds awesome.
Of course, our parades are canceled but some people are doing Irish house floats like we did at Mardi Gras time with our house floats.
We love our parades in New Orleans!
Spring is around the corner. Our weather is warming up, not that we have a very cold or long winter like up north.
It’s kind of a funky day here. Supposed to be nice over the weekend.
Overall, we get a fair amount of rainfall in Louisiana.
So happy Saint Patrick's day to you, your family and all the Irish people... And to those who left a piece of their heart there.
Lucky you! I haven’t ever been to Ireland.
Sadly my 4% Irish DNA was reclassified last year.. but hello lower Scotland! I will be researching that now.
I have Scottish roots too.

Before the pandemic my family used to celebrate SPD with lunch and an Irish concert. Miss it, but had a good day, mom is pure Irish she danced to the Irish music today and worn her green suit and her shamrock earrings. I love celebrating with her.
We took my mother to Ireland for her 87TH birthday 2010. She always wanted to travel there. Could not get her out of the pub at MN one night. We were on tour and bus leaves very early in the morning. I went to bed and brother stayed up with her. She just loved the Irish jigs and music.
When Irish Eyes are Smiling....
I took some classes when I was in Cork. Loved it!
Where is she from?
My grandmother was from Cootehill I Ireland. We visited the town when we went on our trip. Took a taxi on a very rainy day and saw my grandmothers childhood home. We confirmed it with a genealogist prior to traveling there. My mother was so thrilled. We spent a great deal of time in Cork on tour and loved it. I heard all my life about Cork so I was excited to visit that part of Ireland. The Irish folks were so kind. Ireland will always have a very special place in my heart for I shared a very special journey with my dear mother that I will never forget.
I don't know what the conversation is surrounding long term care (nursing homes) in other places but I'm sick and tired of constantly being told that the disaster that resulted from covid is due to for profit homes and poorly paid part time staffing - most especially the last part. These jobs are "not" comparable to flipping burgers, I know that wages have not kept up with inflation but $20/hr is still well above minimum wage. And many of these workers like working part time and at more than one facility because it gives them maximum flexibility for child care and to switch between jobs, it's just not as black and white as the "experts" and media want it to be.
So you arrive for your shift at, I guess, 18:00 hours and you don't leave until, I guess, 19:00 hours the next day, and for 9 of those hours during which you are not working but also not free to leave the building or engage in any other paid activity you receive £/$ 0 per hour.
I can't offhand think of any other job where you can be on duty, unpaid.
And I hope the workers push back on that ruling CM, perhaps by refusing to work overnight shifts. Many PSW's are unionized here, a little bit of solidarity would shake things up.
I must admit I was quite shocked listening to the report. I'm not a member of the union (Unison is the one our employer recognises) and I put in plenty of voluntary hours apart from my contractual shifts, and if I added up I probably do make less than minimum wage per hour totalled up; but I'll be shot if I'd take a job that treated me as badly as that. You're responsible, you're on duty, you are required to be available - but you're not "actually working" so you don't get paid. To rub salt in the wounds, I discovered later on that even if you are called during the night it doesn't count unless whatever the client needs takes over an hour to deal with - i.e. the pay clock doesn't start ticking for 60 minutes. You could be called on the hour throughout the night and still not be able to claim any pay.
I doubt if you can refuse to do the overnight stays, it's probably built into the job description, but I haven't checked.
We don't do so badly in that we do get mileage, and we're salaried (i.e. not paid for hours worked), and we can even claim overtime for public holidays. But then again - I should think so! Name an office job where these aren't taken for granted!
Pamz - Yay!!! Antibodies How long since your shots? I know it takes a while for them to build up. Hopefully they will stay around.
Get well soon!
