Replacing the much lamented 'On My Mind' profile option, this thread is for musings, jottings, whimsies, preoccupations and the rest of the thesaurus for anyone to jot down anything they please.
I can't remember what the maximum character count was before, can anyone else? But anyway it wasn't very many so let's keep to that.
The day after Thanksgiving, I decorated the house and it was because it would be the one thing I could make normal for my husband and I. He was so happy. I have mini lighted Christmas trees in different spots, our regular Christmas tree with a lot of ornaments that my mom and I use to make along with a Dachshund ornament in honor of our 13 year old dog, a letter "J" in memory of my dad and others. I'm a candle person, so I have those around, got out the Christmas placemats and have the Christmas music playing softly in the background. I don't do much outside, I have a beautiful wreath on the door that I added battery operated lights to, alternated green and red light bulbs up the walkway to the front door and in the two lights by the garage. Put two artificial Poinsettias underneath the garage lights. I'm glad I did it - everything else has been taken away from us but, I won't let them take our favorite thing away. Last night as a treat after dinner, we had eggnog and chocolate drizzled popcorn. Now if you could just send me some of your snow, it would be perfect!
I'm glad your making your dad's favorite dish - Duck w/orange sauce. That should make things special along with feeling like he's with you!
I bought our doxie her Christmas gift the other day - she'll love it for ten minutes and then be done with it but, it's a tradition and we love to watch her toss it up in the air!
But maybe I'll feel different once I have my ducks in the oven. Making Duck and the orange sauce always makes me feel closer to my dad. He use to make it every Christmas. Or maybe I still feel like a Grinch!
Llama, I use to give gifts to my fur babies. Santa Paws!🎅🐾
Hardly anyone sends Christmas cards, hand written anymore. Hope it is not too late to send mine out.
The thing is, friend has been very busy during Covid safe-at-home orders, states all year she has been staying home. Maybe staying home 5 months out of 12 counts as staying home for her. The rest was travel to really nice places.
Busted. Sorry, something must be wrong with me. I suffer from 'all or nothing' thinking.
I can’t help but wonder how many businesses will be impacted by COVID.
It’s very sad.
In the past, when someone was injured or ill, I selected a group of cards for various stages of the healing process. I also used rubber stamps (remember when those were so popular?) and stamped the envelopes for various situations, such as when the person was down, or up and happy, or for hot or cold days.
E.g., one relative was healing from cardiac surgery during the summer, so some of the cards featured marine mammals. On the outside of the envelope, I wrote something to the effect of opening the card when one of those hot summer days is slowing everyone down. I stamped the envelope with rubber stamps of dolphins, chatting to each other about how cool the seas were.
I got a kick out of that; I don't know if anyone ever really read them or enjoyed them, but I thought it might relieve some tension.
After reading your comment, I'm going to dig out my MomCat stamps (remember B. Kliban's MomCat?) and send those to relatives with cats.
Thanks for sharing such a great idea!
Add some fruit and crackers and it’s a complete meal!
Wine and cheese may help prevent Alzheimer's Disease.
This last year has absolutely made me think about my mortality!
Before I had surgery a couple months ago I filled out an advanced directive.
It was very uncomfortable, but for all the reasons you stated, very worthwhile!! I feel good for having done it!
I think so many of us that have become caregivers have learned from our older LOs who weren't prepared.
Like you, I don't want to be a burden to my LOs.
I went online to my state government website and found forms specific to my state.
My state only requires 2 witnesses signatures. No notary.
It varies by state.
I always thought George Burns was so cute!
What did your dad have to say about him?
Yes, George Burns did live to be a 100. I always wanted to meet him. My dad met him because George ate at my dad's restaurant and George wanted to meet the Chef. I didn't talk to my dad for 2 whole days because he didn't get George's autograph. I was a teenager! Just imagine what it would have been worth, not that I would sell it.
I wouldn't and don't want to live to be a 100 little along 108!! The world is already going mad. Can you imagine what it will be like in 10, 20, 40, 50 yrs! Yikes!!!
Glad,
I use to watch Dick Van Dyke when I was young. I haven't watch him in yrs! I'll have to YouTube him!
He had a cameo in the last movie about Mary Poppins. He still dances! Amazing actor and the best in physical comedy.
I thought John Ritter on Three’s Company had that knack for physical comedy too.

Used to watch Andy Griffith and Golden Girls but both have been taken off of YouTube.
Betty White is 98! I think George Burns lived to 100!
Look at Roberta McCain. She died in October of this year at 108! My gosh! I can’t imagine living that long!
I'll have to catch the Betty White story. It is hard to believe that she is still with us after we have lost so many good actors, singers, and comedian. I was just telling my sig-other that all great people (TV, Movies, and what not) that we grew up watching are retiring, dying off, or just getting old. It makes me sad to think how many we have lost and who will replace them "so to speak." They don't make movies or shows like they use too! That's for sure!
I love Andy Griffith! I think everyone should have an Aunt Bea!
Maude did have dry wit. She was funny. They all were.
You’re right. Some of the new shows are not interesting.
I watch a lot on PBS. I like Smithsonian and a few others.
I do love the old reruns. I used to like Bob Newhart too. I Love Lucy and Honeymooners were funny.
Dick Van Dyke was fantastic! I still love watching Mary Poppins! Julie Andrews is adorable.
I used to watch The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Dick Van Dick, That Girl , Doris Day Show. Junk is on now, can't find anything good on any more. I do watch Andy of Mayberry and Gomer Pyle.
Sophia is my favorite! What about you? Estelle Getty was precious.
Betty was Rose, Rue was Blanche. Bea was Dorothy. Betty is the only one living.
I took drama in high school. I would have loved to play a feisty character like Sophia! LOL
I have always loved Betty White. She was adorable with Mary Tyler Moore.
She was cute on Password and Match Game.
I just love Betty White!
Probably so. I do have blue eyes.
Some animals have hauntingly beautiful eyes, like the Siberian huskies. I think cats have gorgeous eyes, especially Siamese cats.
I would like a card like that because our animals really are a part of our families.
Your dad sounds like my dad. My dad was so sweet.
I used to give my dad father's day cards from my kitties. I actually found cards that say, "Happy Father's Day" and it would have on the front of the card a picture of cats or dogs and when you open it up it would state from your grand kitties or grand puppies. My dad just loved the cards.
Yup, my friend had a snow dog who didn't like snow and I have a snow kitty who doesn't like snow. That is what I get for teasing my friend about her dog!)
I hope you get to see your grand puppy!
That’s funny. Your friend’s dog sounds cute! I have heard of some with one blue and one brown eye. Some people have one brown eye and one blue eye too.
I don’t have grandchildren but I always watched my daughter’s old dog when she went out of town and at other times too.
I joked with her calling her dog, a little poodle, my grand puppy! I missed him when he died. He had Cushing’s disease.
Now I have a husky for a grand puppy but since she moved far away, I only see photos. He tries to catch the snow on his tongue. She sent a video. It’s cute. Plus he loves playing in the snow.
That’s hysterical that your friend’s husky didn’t like the snow!
I had a friend who had a Husky. He had one blue eye and one brown eye. He didn't like the snow. I use to tease her about having a snow dog who doesn't like snow. But he sure did love his jellybeans. At Easter, she would keep a bowl of jellybeans on her coffee table and her dog would help himself to one jellybean and would walk around the house chew it just to end up back into the living room and take another jellybean. He would always leave the green one in the bowl. She would tell her guess, don't eat the jellybeans on the coffee table, they belong to my dog. I can't remember what was the green jellybeans?! Her dog didn't like pickels on his hamburgers either. Every time I got him a cheeseburger and forgot to ask for no pickel he would some how get the pickel out of the burger and leave it on the floor or the seat of the car.
Dam, I miss that dog. He was so loveable and sweet. In fact, after we stop being friends I missed her dog more than her! Sad but true!!
