My mother has many medical conditions that we have to do most everything for her. Are we able to get part of her SSA?

Do you mean can your mother use part of her social security check she already gets to help pay expenses? Certainly. Can you collect your own benefit from her account? No. You can only file social security for your own work credits, or your spouse's. Social security does not pay adult children a benefit from parent accounts or pay you as a caregiver.

Very good question. The best way is to draw up a care contract between your mother and you. Have in it what she will pay toward living expenses (housing, utilities, food, etc.) and get it witnessed and notarized. That way if she needs to apply for Medicaid in the future it will indicate what you were receiving the money for, instead of looking like a gift.
