...I don't have kids and can't remember how often I changed diapers when I used to babysit as a teenager, but I wanted to get some insight into how often Dad should be... "going". My apologies for being so graphic....

It seems like Dad has two sizeable loads a day. I'm currently freshening him up upon rising around 6 AM and it's usually a full... muddy load. I then do mid-day which is normally smaller and drier, and then in the evenings around 7 PM and it's a mud fest again... full.

I can't figure out if it's loose stool or if it's just... crushed from being on his body (I double brief him)... and it's EVERYWHERE. Dad seems to be feeling OK (and the hemorrhoids have shrunk considerably), but is he "going" too much?

I'm VERY regular and may go once a day due to my high fiber diet and LOTS of water, so I worry that two full loads a day is excessive. It's hard for me to tell if the consistency is... formed because it's smashed (sorry to sound gross). It's not hard or watery... no blood or dark color... so I'm assuming he's OK...

Just wanted some input from others that have experience in this area. Hope I didn't disgust you all....

I would not worry about it right now. If he gets diarrhea and its constant, then worry. Maybe some foods that will bulk him up, like cheese or bananas. Not too much and then you'll be back to those laxatives and you don't want that. Maybe its adjustment. After all that stool softeners and stuff maybe it screwed him up. I know, no fun cleaning up. I use to pray Mom wouldn't go for a day. You think maybe Dad could get back on a schedule. Like figure out when he goes and get him on a toilet.

That's great advice. I'm going to try to establish a routine this weekend...

...yes... cleaning up is NOT fun and I think Dad feels a bit embarassed. Thanks!

JoAnns answer to try to get him onto a toilet a couple of times is a good one. That will help you to really see what’s going on without interference from the pull-up. Is that possible?

"The general range is from 3 times a day to 3 times a week. Less than 3 movements a week may indicate constipation, and more than 3 watery stools a day could indicate diarrhea.
If you do not have a daily bowel movement, it does not mean you are constipated. Having more than one movement a day does not mean that you have diarrhea"

She just mentioned in another post she was giving him juices. I had to cut apple juice and coffee out for Mom. I had the same problem with her.

I'll also cut back on the natural juices. Trying to take Dad's coffee would cause world war three!!!

Try the juice first and see what happens. If the problem continues, tell him you just need to stop the coffee for a few days to see if that is causing the problem. If it isn't he gets it back. If it does, you have solved the problem. My Mom liked green tea so she had something hot to drink. She didn't miss her coffee but she was far into her Demmentia.
