Not sure why Mom can not walk

My Husband had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I strongly suspect that he also had Vascular Dementia.
There were several things that he was able to do one day and literally over night was unable to do that very thing. Walking was one of them.
Have you had mom checked at the hospital for probable causes of her being unable to walk?
From the way you phrased your question I presume that this was also a very rapid occurrence. It should be followed up by a visit to the ER or if you can get her into the doctor. Just know the doctor will probably order tests that would have to be done at the hospital anyway.

What other health conditions does your mom have?

Once my MIL went into AL and fell a few times (due to being very out of shape and back pain) she just chose to stop getting out of bed. Refused. Once my MIL stopped, she lost all her muscle tone and ability. Now she cannot walk or get out of bed on her own anymore.

Not saying this is what's going on with your Mom, but sometimes it can be a conscious choice.

More info from you would be helpful.

That happened to my husband last year, could not walk, every test was done, 3 weeks in hospital.
Nothing conclusive.
After hospitalization he was walking better than before but only for 4-5 months and now gradually it is getting worse.

My mother (99, dementia) constantly tried to escape the hospital and talked endlessly. Then she became angry and stopped speaking and moving. Wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t open her eyes except to catch quick glimpses, wouldn’t reposition herself in bed, wouldn’t use the bathroom. So many tests, nothing wrong so she was moved to “comfort care”, as it was thought to be a continuation of her dementia. Upon learning she’d been moved from the medical floor, she sat up and told the Dr, in no uncertain terms, that she was just fine, thank you very much. Next she was discharged to a care home. She refused PT and would try to walk when nobody was looking. Now, over 2 years later, she is back to feeding herself, repositioning herself in bed and recently painted a picture.

Behavioural.
