I guess my point is that we don't want dad to get sick before his procedure.

My mom and I each visit him every 4 days so that someone is there every other day. I had gone the last couple times even with a cough. I was really sick 7-10 days ago. My mom was sick for a few days but today she seems better. He REALLY can't get sick because this procedure was scheduled 5 months in advance so I'm kind of paranoid.

Neither of us ever had a fever. What exactly are the "rules" on this? Should neither of us go or would that be me just being paranoid? I know he definitely would not like that plan.

I would be playing better-safe-than-sorry-here. I am afraid I would recommend no visits from anyone ill. Certainly Dad will be exposed in his daily life to germs, and in his pre op testing as well. But any elimination of germs here is a good thing. Just recently having had surgery I learned they now paint your nose with betadine so you don't breathe your own germs down onto your wound. GADS! They sure do TRY!

You and mom have no business going anywhere with a cough. You should have tested for Covid, and you still should. Why would you think that seeing dad in person is more important than keeping away when there’s a killer virus around? 2000 deaths a week is the last figure I saw, a couple of weeks ago. And there’s plenty of flu around as well as RSV.

I simply cannot fathom people who knowingly put others at risk - including every person you came in contact with wherever dad is. They’re probably almost all high risk due to age alone, not to mention other comorbidiities such as coronary artery disease, diabetes and dementia.

Holy freaking cow. This is why we’re still dealing with Covid, which has so far killed 14 people I know and left countless others with permanent lung and heart issues as well as cognitive decline.

There's no "rule", only common sense. It's not a risk worth taking so stay away until you no longer have any symptoms. Even then, wear a mask just to be safe. Too bad if he can't see the logic in why you are protecting him.

Stay away -- 100% away.

Tell him it's doctor's orders if you have to, but don't risk him getting sick. Call him daily on the phone.
