I took mom shopping other day, and after we were in store for llitlle bit she became dizzy all at once, and almost fell over. Thankfully she was already holding on to buggy, and I was standing beside her. She didn'f fall, but I wonder why she has these dizzy spells sometimes? Also thanks to the people in the world who will actually have the decency to stop what they are doing to help someone in need. A lady in store threw her things on floor to assist me w/ mom. While plenty of others just chose to stare, and not offer any help. Geuss they never needed help in public.

Try an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. They deal with dizziness. They might be able to do testing on her to find out what's going on. I just had this done on myself 2 weeks ago and am starting vestibular (balance) physical therapy shortly. I don't know if she would be able to handle it, but call an ENT office. Vomiting may go with the sense of dizziness.

Dizzy spells due to changes in blood pressure are common in certain kinds of dementia. Be sure the doctor knows about this incident, and if other occur try to record as much detail as possible to discuss with the doctor. But as Carol says, there may be more specific causes, like a UTI. That should be checked out first.

Hi Kelly,
That's really nice that someone rushed to help with your mom. Some people want to help, but just freeze up as they don't know what to do. Often, it's quite simple. Open a door for someone, or as in your case, help support an ill person.

Her dizzy spells should be mentioned to the doctor. It could have to do with her medication or she could have an infection like a urinary infection. My mother-in-law had that problem, and it took quite awhile to get the doctor to run tests for a UTI. Once the infection was cleared, she was much more stable.
Good luck,
Carol
