I had a GPS phone for Dad but Dad has stopped being able to use it anymore, so he wouldn't wear it. He will wear a watch. I have looked on Amazon but there are so many choices and I don't know which would be best for a senior with dementia.
No, I don’t have experience with what you’re asking. I do know that our local law enforcement offers at no cost a locator for seniors with dementia. You may want to check with your local officials about this
My mom and step-dad both wear Apple watches. It has a fall alert. They didn't even realize it did - until he took a header into a wall one day . . . . and Emergency Services called them on the watch to see if everyone was ok. "We received an alert that someone has taken a substantial fall or blow, do we need to send medical help?"
However, neither of these two are dealing with any memory or cognitive issues - so that makes it all easier.
OK so I’ve been doing a little research because I am pretty tech savvy, I however do not like watches at all but take a look at this one on Amazon.com and see if this would work it says that it is really good for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Make sure you read all of the customer ratings..
Give SIM Card and Strap) 3G GPS Watch for Elderly, WiFi Phone Call,KKBear Real-time Tracking, Geo-Fence Touch Screen Camera SOS Alarm Anti-Lost GPS Tracker Suitable for Dementia Alzheimer's
Copy and paste everything from the above sentence into the Amazon search and it will take you directly to the watch if you need anymore help just ask it’s $97 also the Apple Watches is from what I hear are pretty nice I love my iPhone and iPad maybe I’ll even try a watch.
I also found this one on Amazon.com which has very good ratings once again copy and paste everything into Amazon search.

Verizon has the gizmo watch. My grands each have one. Even when I wonder what they are doing I can looks to see where they are. It also has voice capabilities.
Is this just for the GPS because I doubt if he will be able to learn to use it. Before putting out the money u may want to call ur local Police Dept. They may have GPS trackers they will give you.
One thing to make sure you consider is how whatever you get is charged and how often it needs to be. Can your LO do that themselves will they remember to take it off and put it on for charging? We tried something like this for my mom but she just couldn't take it on and off by herself or set it up fr charging (it was very simple) and she ended up just not using it. A real bummer,
Few law enforcement agencies have GPS devices to give out, just FYI. In California they use “silver alerts” which are like amber alerts but for senior citizens. I know of one city down insocal that at one time was giving out gps trackers but most departments don’t have the funds for this kind of thing & have to rely on partnerships with nonprofits.
you might contact projectlifesaver, they are give out gps devices
