Hi I'm new to the group. I'm a CNA, I've provided personal care to three families over the course of 26 years😊 I'm currently with a family, that I've been with going on two years. I was asked to travel in September for 4 days. This is new for me. I work 9 hours a day, 5 days a week. I'm sure I'll be responsible for putting my client to bed. Can someone give feedback on if I should be compensated for just my hours?

Confirm the agreed upon compensation in writing before you agree to go on the trip. If you don’t like the terms, let them know you aren’t able to take on the extra work. Just be very clear about everything and don’t let anything be assumed because you have no idea what they are expecting either.

This disrupts your life outside of work so of course you need compensation for that. Don’t hesitate to expect your meals, expenses, and extra time be covered

Not an elder care expert but as a former nanny your transportation, accommodations and meals should be paid for by your employer. You should also receive your regular hourly rate for all the hours you work AND some sort of travel stipend or 50% rate for the hours you're not working but are "on call".

You should not only be comped for those hours but for any part of the trip you’re on call for the client’s toileting, transferring, feeding or bathing plus momsitting. It’s not like YOU are the one on vacation.
