My 93 year old MIL was placed in an assisted living facility after a fall and broken hip. She was seen by a psychiatric PA for her depression and increased anxiety and paranoia. He prescribed Olanzapine(Zypreza)

Are you seeing, after beginning this medication, that she is having increasing problems?
Discuss with her medical prescribing MD if so.

Has she been checked for a UTI? Untreated UTIs are a common problem in elderly women with almost no other symptoms except "suddenly" changed cognitive behaviors. I would discount this first.

My 95-yr old Mom is on the lowest dose of Lexapro (by her primary doctor) when she started having depression and paranoia. It helped her a lot.

Thanks for your input! My MIL just finished a round of antibiotics for a UTI that did help with some of her symptoms. She has residual depression and paranoia (I actually think she’s had this to some degree all her life). Just haven’t heard of olanzapine and wondered if anyone had taken it and how effective it is.
