We need to change the bathtub for a shower with a seating area. We are seniors, wife 76 years old had a stroke. I have priced the bathtub remodel and is too expensive. I could pay some money but not the whole full amount.

There are great options for cutting down the edge of the tub that would make access easier. For my mom, we found these might give you some ideas:

- Here's the one we liked the best: https://www.cleancutbath.com
- https://imperialbath.net/convertible-kit.html

I hope this helps.

Make sure that you have tried all the options for help in modifying things for your wife’s disability. There can be multiple sources for grants. If that fails, one idea to check out could be to get a strong waterproof insert made to fit over and into the top of the bath, with an inflatable cushion to provide a sitting place up at the level of the bath edge, and a hole in the insert so that the water can drain down into the bath. You would need to modify the bath taps to accept a shower fitting on a flexible hose. But don’t rely on my plumbing expertise!

Try calling your local Area on Aging Agency. They might have referrals for you. Also some churches have ministries to do this type work. You might have to put your name on a waiting list.
Ask your wife’s doctor to order her HHC to see if she would qualify for their services through Medicare. If she is home bound she might qualify and also be able to get a bathing aide.

Have you tried those tub replacement places. They can replace tubs with showers. When I had my Moms shower put in, the contractor suggested not installing a seat. People had complained that its hard getting the back scrubbed when ur that close to the wall. I bought a shower chair.
