Find Care & Housing
The sex offender registry lasts for life, and it’s reasonable that facilities would screen both residents and employees for this. Felony convictions are generally not reportable after seven years, so it’s a bit unlikely that residents needing assisted living would have those still on their reportable records. Not many senior bank robbers or car jackers I’d imagine

[ from ChatGPT5.5]

Some independent and assisted-living communities conduct criminal-background checks on prospective residents, but being a convicted felon does not necessarily make someone ineligible. Policies vary considerably by facility and by the nature and age of the conviction. A decades-old nonviolent felony may be treated very differently from a recent violent or sexual offense. Assisted-living facilities will also consider whether the prospective resident's current behavior or needs could pose a safety concern or exceed what the facility can manage. I'd be upfront with the admissions director and ask for the facility's written criminal-history/admissions policy before paying an application or community fee.

My guess is that OP has seen someone they think has a criminal history and wants to stir. Asking for “the facility's written criminal-history/admissions policy” is likely to be answered with “why”, the perfect opportunity to stir. My suggestion would be to keep your mouth shut unless you really think it’s a current threat to other residents.

Why do you ask? And who or what would "require them to do so"? And what sort of felony? And how long ago "committed"?

Many felonies would present no danger to staff or residents, and some are ancient history from decades ago.

Who knows? Your best bet would be to ask each community if they do such background checks on prospective residents.
