Find Care & Housing
You probably have to tell us more. My mom also refuses to go to the doctor. She is 75. My sister had to call 911 about 3 years ago and as she dialed my mom agreed to go to the emergency room. She could barely walk. Needed back surgery. Did her physical therapy and one follow up appointment and hasn't been back since. I think she has arthritis in her one hand, but she won't get it checked out. So, tell us more. Your mom's age. What you think is wrong with her. When was the last time she saw a doctor?

Is she complaining about health issues to you? When she was going to the docs was she following their instructions she may know what they will tell like changing habits that she does not want to change.

I live with my mom who is a diabetic. Years ago a callus on her foot turned into a open wound that will not heal. Of course this is what happens to most people that have diabetes and she then began regular visits to her primary care doctor to care for her foot. In time, unknown to me she stopped going to her appointments. It has been a year I found out that she has not gone. I work so I don't talk to her until the evenings when I get home. Surgery for a broken hip brought attention to her foot which was highly infected. A extended stay at the nursing home where she was rehabilitating for her hip was required. Home care from a nurse was coming three times a week to check her vitals and dressing changes for the wound on her foot. When it was time for her to start seeing her doctor she refuses to go. She does not want to bathe as well. Attempts to get her to do one of these is impossible. Her wound is now worse. Head nurse comes to talk to her but nothing about additional treatment needed to save her foot but still, NOTHING. Now she has open oozing and bleeding sores all over body that she picks at. Her legs are swollen and the sores are getting bigger and bigger. I did not mention she has high blood pressure too. I finally call 911 thinking that would get her to the ER but she still refuses and the operator advises me that if she does not want to go they won't make her. I have run out of options and not her doctor or anyone else can help because of this. Her health is at risk now and her foot can not be saved I feel. Any advice would be appreciated. Hygiene and the open wounds that are all over her are a concern to me and my family as we feel she has developed a staph infection. Help!
