Is there financial assistance available?

TooOldLikeDirt, welcome to the forum. You would need to check with Kohler or Jacuzzi to get their prices, and see if they have a financial program where you can pay monthly.

If you buy the materials at Home Depot, they can provide an installation estimate and also the actual labor.

My Mom's house was built in the 50s as a bungalow. We had Kohler come out to estimate pulling out her tub and installing a walk-in purchased through Costco. It was $15+. I'm sure there are less expensive routes. Contact your local Area Agency on Aging for resources and information.

Every estimate will be different because of the age, how it's installed, what you ultimately want, etc.

We installed a handicap accessible shower with Bath Fitters in my parents' house in NYC three years ago It cost about $12K to do. They had to come back a couple of times to make adjustments because the water wasn't draining properly but eventually they made it right.

We didn't price around and I think probably we paid too much.

These name brands are top of the line. Be sure to shop around for less expensive alternatives. Both of these companies pay a lot for advertising and cost more. Also take into account the age and medical status of the person who will use this as this is a major home improvement and investment. Will they use it for several years or for the short term only?
I am not sure if it will add value to your house. Several of my elderly neighbors have had this done. Their houses were purchased by families with children who had to re install a tub. It may not be a plus for resale value, if you have no tub at all.

You need to call your Office of Aging and see if your State has any programs. Even lowcost loans.
