She was having hallucinations that the conversation was real and one time wss going to call police because she felt threatened by on of the videos. She started crying and wanted me to put it back on her phone for her entertainment. It hurts me and I still could get her to understand it was not good for her. I can't get her to go to a senior center for interaction with others and Church is out because she hurts sitting in the pews. Are there any other social interaction tools out there?

I'm not sure if this would work for you but what about allowing some use but setting up parental controls to limit what she sees?

What about karaoke on the computer? You could load her favorite songs and she could sing along. There are some games specifically designed for demential patients… https://www.commonwisecare.com/games-for-memory-care-residents/#:~:text=MindMate%20is%20one%20of%20the,their%20progress%20if%20they%20please.

Good luck!

I am very new to caregiving and have no experience with hallucinations per say, however my grandmother began to not understand her phone and wanted me to get it fixed. She also was watching shows she loved or very happy movies like hallmark christmas movies, and were saying they were scary and she didn’t want to watch stuff like that anymore. If she likes church, maybe hers/one y'all like offers a facebook streaming of the service or has it on tv! I did that for my grandmother many times. I’m not too sure about your mother’s situation of course but maybe there are some books you could read to her or she could read herself. When my grandmother started being scared by things that weren’t scary, I started watching some of our old favorite childhood/cartoon movies and was a great way to reminisce as well. (like i said i don't have a lot of experience, but everyone on this site has been so helpful, I’ve been dying to try to answer someone else’s questions lol)

labrat1, some times hallucinations could be caused by an Urinary Tract Infection. Such an infection can create all types of different behavioral problems.

If you can, take your Mom to her primary doctor or even urgent care and have her tested for an UTI. The test is simple, and if it comes back positive, it can be controlled by antibiotics.

One has to be very careful about the websites they are using. Some have questionable security, some will scam elders, some will spy on the user. TikTok is questionable, it has been accused of ‘aggressive’ data harvesting. One can find many articles on Google about said issue.

"NO" is a complete sentence. Please think of Mom as a child you need to protect from predators. As fascinating as the Internet can be, there are too many variables that smart criminals can use while cruising for victims.

Please see if you can interest her in games like Solitary, crossword puzzles and a specialized designed game place called, "Lumosity." There are probably comedic websites too. Here's a free brain game site: https://www.brainhq.com

Sometimes we care givers have to be the "bad guy."
