I’ve found a few places online that give a formula…for lack of a better word, but nothing in dollar amounts. Has anyone had any success asking to pay a bit over the Medicaid reimbursement rate to keep their loved one in a private room instead of a cramped shared room? Thank you so much for your responses. We are just now “traveling down this road” and it is quite overwhelming!

It does not matter what Medicaid reimburses. Your LO will need to turnover their Social Security and any pension they receive. Medicaid then pays their share which is not what the NH gets for private pay. My Mom put 1700 towards her care. The Medicaid recovery was 6000 for 3 months. So each month they got 3700 a month. This place charges 9300 a month private pay.

You need to ask the place you planbon placing your LO if Medicaid pays, can family pay the difference for a single room.
