Find Care & Housing
The hospital should have a social worker on staff. Ask to meet with them asap, hopefully they will be able to answer all your questions and help you get started with everything you need.

Be very careful that you sign no papers for your mom except as her POA. This to keep you from being held responsible for her debt.

I just had to close on a house sale as my Mom's PoA. The real estate attorney had me sign for her in a very specific way. I'm sure it differs by state. Always ask first if you do have to sign for someone.

My question is why does Mom only have B. To get her B may cost her more than it would have cost her when she first enrolled at 65, a penalty. Is she still working and has insurance with her employer? You or she needs to call Medicare. The following I got off the internet. Because she did not take Part B at 65, her cost monthly may be more than the $202.90.

" Medicare Part B Costs
Most people: Pay a standard monthly premium of $202.90.

Higher income earners: Pay a higher monthly amount based on tax returns.

Deductible: $283 per year."

What is your question?

Open enrollment starts soon. I'd get her on full Medicare plus a Medigap plan (not an Advantage plan). Contact her state's SHIP counselor or insurance department. Medicare recommends SHIP for free, independent Medigap counseling.
