I have been on antibiotics for 3 days. I have plans to fly from CT to CA and visit with Dad, 94 and Step mom 86. They are frail. I am not supposed to be contagious any more according to doc. I’m on antibiotics 3 days. I leave in 2. Should I cancel my trip?

If you have been on antibiotics and your doctor says the visit would not be a problem then go..visit.
However you also run the risk of getting ill again. Air travel is nasty when it comes to picking up colds and other respiratory illnesses.
If your parents live in AL or other "community living" situation it is common to pick up things like Norovirus and with you recovering from an illness your immune system is not 100% so make sure you wash your hands constantly and use hand sanitizer.
You can also use a mask if there is any chance of respiratory illness. You can pick them up almost anywhere now.

What about the other plane passengers? Aren't you worried about them too?

If you are coughing, sneezing or having bathroom issues, you should not be flying. I do not care if you are on antibiotics, the possibility of you spreading antibiotic resistant bacteria to a plane full of people is too great. Unless you are prepared to wear a mask all the time on the plane and also in the many line ups at the airport prior to boarding.

I wouldn't cancel. You could wear a mask for just don't touch him or things in his room.

I would speak to your parent’s nurse or doctor to see what they say. How do you feel? I hope you are up to traveling.

When you say frail, what exactly do you mean? Cancer patients have weak immune systems.

It would be a shame to cancel unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Also be sure to ask if your situation is safe and potentially comfortable for yourself, to fly.

Hopefully your course of antibiotics will clear up your sickness. Also hopefully it is the right one for your ailment. I think it is important to see your parents especially giving their ages and health issues.

This has been a year of antibiotics for me. I understand the reluctance of many to not overdue them but because they were withheld from me initially during a root canal, then given a mild one only switching later to a stronger one,and in retrospect not being on them more seriously I developed osteomylitis in my jaw which created a nightmare. I had to have major surgery, then a PICC line for 6 weeks and now am on a course of them for 6 months as there can be concern infection can interact with the plate in my jaw and tissue that hopefully is growing to a degree around it which will help with future surgery. I have been around 3 grandchildren this winter and did not get a cold which is the only positive side effect of my ordeal.

I certainly agree with others about consulting the doctor who prescribed them. Hopefully you too sense whether your illness is improving.
