I am the sole caregiver at home for my wife with advanced AD. I have a hospital bed with a pressure regulated mattress. I have a ROHO mosaic air cushion for her wheelchair. She is still able to walk with my help every two hours to the bathroom where I check her skin. So far, she has no skin issues and I want to keep it that way. I use a washable terrycloth pad with a Stryker Prevalon Microclimate Body Pad on top of that. I use pull-up briefs with booster pads so she rarely has a leak, but I am skeptical of the Stryker pads. I don't mind spending whatever it takes to keep her skin from breaking down, but are the Stryker pads overpriced? They do seem to be more durable for in and out of bed excursions, but once they're soiled...

Honestly I think what you are doing by getting her up
Keeping her dry
Keeping her clean
Is doing far more good than any under pad you would buy.
I used a Washable under pad that I got from Costco (it was on line) it is Conni bedding bed pad. It holds about 2.5 liter (0.66 gallon) over an 8 hour time period.
I never had one leak through.
If you are going to spend money on more absorbent pads spend them on washable ones.
If your pull up brief leaks through it does not matter how absorbent the pad is you are going to discard it and use another.
The mattress you have is able to be wiped down and sanitized so if there is a bit of a leak it is not going to ruin the mattress.

If you have access to RN's or CNA's I found them really helpful in giving me product selections and brand names of what they used and thought worked well.

Have no idea.

The best thing that you are doing to prevent skin/pressure sores by far is the standing and walking every two hours. We also pressed Mom with walking.

My friend who is an RN told me to get the washable chux so got those on Amazon and Mom's CNA's had us get the disposable pads. I think we were getting the Mckesson disposable ones from Amazon.

I don't think the quality of the pad is that critical. Standing and walking your wife every two hours is really really key to preventing skin breakdown.

If your wife will stand longer holding onto the kitchen counter or the bathroom counter the more standing and walking she gets in the better in terms of skin protection.

Also, make sure your wife gets enough protein every day. The protein is critical for keeping the skin strong.

I'm not familiar with the body pads that you speak of, but I am of the belief that if something is not broken then why fix it?
These pads seem to be doing a great job for your wife and keeping her with no skin issues, so it sounds like they're worth every penny.
Keep up the good work with your wife.
