Hi everyone,

My mom needs some socks and I’ve had a couple of failed attempts finding ones that fit right. Her feet are around size 10 and for some brands socks are too tight and for others the socks are too loose. At this point I thought I’d consult the experts before buying more. Not looking for compression socks, but she does have ALZ and mobility issues so ease of getting them off and on is necessary.

Extra bonus for brands with colors…

Thanks! And I gotta say this is my favorite caregiving ‘problem’ by miles

Men's socks come in larger sizes.
A Womens size 10 shoe is about the same as a Men's size 7 or 8.
I also found that if you look (I found them at Walmart) socks for Diabetics. They are usually a bit larger than the typical ones of the same size.

I bough the diabetic socks from Walmart too, they have less elastic in the leg which might make them easier to put on.

I gave up on women's socks after finding that (a) there's very little consistency in size from one brand to another (b) many socks are made in China and don't seem to be even remotely consistent with American sizes, and (c) they really don't provide much warmth.   Sometimes they're too thin; sometimes the elastic is to short and they pinch me ankles or legs.

I switched to men's hunting socks; they're too big, but at least they aren't as offsized as the Chinese junk, and they keep my feet very warm.  I can't get them into my existing shoes yet b/c they're so thick, but I need new shoes anyway.

But they sure do keep my feet warm at night!

Buy men's compression socks. They are bigger. Also, if you dust her legs with baby powder first, it helps. Make sure her legs are absolutely dry first!!

Had a similar problem with my husband---socks too tight or too loose. Finally bought diabetic socks and he is happy with them. I like this caregiving problem! ((((Hugs to You)))))

You may also want to look for ones (like on Amazon) that have non-slip grip on the bottoms…

I agree. My mom has smaller feet but I have found that she needed looser socks since her stroke and being less mobile and have found diabetic socks are good as well. I just order them on Amazon. They have a better stretch and looser fit.

I wear trouser socks. Not quite compression but have some support. Warm and they stretch. Get mine at Walmart. They do go to the knee. Mostly dark colors though.

I have size 11 feet and I have found at Walmart the Hanes brand socks that are specifically made for folks with bigger feet. You just have to check the packaging as it will say for what size shoe they're for. Good luck.
