Medication in nursing home is not being administered as written what can relatives do next… care team meeting was scheduled, however medicines are not implemented on night shift but it is signed for. What are recourses

Is it possible that your family member in the nursing home doesn't remember receiving the medications, because of dementia or sleepiness, and is incorrectly telling you that they aren't being administered?

If you know for sure that the medications aren't being given, you can escalate to the ombudsman whose information should be posted in the nursing home.

Contact the ombudsman if you have already brought this up with the nurse, doctor and admins.

How do you know meds are not being given on nightshift if the Nurse has signed off they have been given?

My daughter is an RN in LTC. She has explained to me, that medication is in blister pkging. Because of this, its easy for the next shift to see that it has been given or not given, if not, they report it. Because, a nurse should not be signing off if the medication was not given.

These records are looked at by State inspectors. You start out with 30 pills, you records better show 30 pills were given. My daughter did find the the Nurse ahead of her was stealing meds and had to report her. Yes, she was signing off the med was given but an error she made was found by my daughter.

My mom told me she is not getting her night meds. I asked the admin and nurse and they said they were not aware of missed doses and would have been if doses were missed. Mom gets a lot of things wrong as it is. If she were not getting her psych meds she would be violent by now. I think they forget they were given them.
