My husband was just transferred to a rehab from the hospital. It is horrible. We have been here for two hours and no one has come to see him. I had to ask twice to get a walker so he could go to the bathroom. I don't dare leave him because he cannot get up by himself and there is not a way to call for help that we see

Not knowing his specific needs, be cautious as taking him home will likely be very, very difficult. Thinking I could manage DH care at home was an enormous mistake I would never make again. His most recent hospital stay advised rehab and we grabbed it with both hands. A much better outcome for both of us

Go find another rehab SNF you like better from the list you were given. Have the admissions director help coordinate your husband's transfer from the dump to the new place and get Medicare's approval to do so. The new SNF should have a mini bus to come pick your husband up and take him over. This is what I had to do with my mother in 2019.

Best of luck to you.

Hope the other choices aren't full and don't take him.

My cousin transferred his Mom. She had been in a Rehab for 3 days or more with no PT. He was able to send hervto another one. Be aware though, the 20 days that Medicare pays 100% does not start over when he transfers to another Rehab.

I really don't think 2 hours is unreasonable. My Dad was taken to Rehab in the evening. He was placed in a temporary room and no one admitted him till the next day.

Kam123,
Any update for us after 24 hours in the new facility? Hoping things are better.

It may depend on your location. In WA state, when I was concerned about his rehab location, I called other places. I was told we will accept him, and medicare will pay for it. I worked out the problem where he was. You should have a state agency that offers advice and tells you your choices. If you know of a better rehab, contact them.
