My mother is gay but never had a chance to be.. gay. She's now 87 years old and resting at the home in a rest bed.

Find Care & Housing
That was a different era. Gays were not allowed to marry or show their affection for each other publicly. I’m sorry that your mom couldn’t be her true self. Things are much different today.

Your profile says that mom is 71. Typo?

Some people in a Care Home make a special bond, a strong connection to a new person. Sometimes it doesn't go both ways & staff have to intervene, change dining seating or even rooms.

If it does go both ways, it can be a lovely blessing & reduce lonliness. It may be a romantic or companionship bond.

Many women had strong social bonds - with sisters, girlfriends, with their female work 'sisters' (many older occupations were more gender aligned eg nursing).

So maybe your Mom is making female companions?

Or maybe she is gay & has been unable to live openly, but feeling able to now. Would that upset you?
