Im trying to get my father to do puzzles and games, I even made a puzzle with family info on it to remind him of people and places but he just gives up. Some days he remembers things and others he doesn't so I am trying to have it written down for him to read but at the same time trying to stimulate his brain.
I got the idea after seeing the speech therapist have him do a daily "memory journal" when he was in skilled care the first time around. The second trip I started doing the notes daily as a memory prompt. I included why he was there (UTI) where his wife was (in their shared AL apartment upstairs) etc. When he got out of skilled and back to AL he asked me to keep doing it and it's just become a regular feature. Both of my sibs live out of town, so I email it to them as an FYI as to what's up. I live by "If it's not in writing it doesn't exist" so it helps keep us all on the same page, and provides support for him without being condescending.
There are formal programs and projects in this area, but it seems to me that this idea's wonderful, and I'm trying to do it for my Mom.
