My mother broke her hip last year and can't walk. She sits in a recliner all day and pressure sores prevention is in effect. Any input is appreciated.

Well, I'm not an expert by any means, but I wanted to move this question back up to the top off of the second page.

I've seen sheepskin recliner covers in the Harriet Carter catalog. They are not real attractive, but may do the job.

I'd look for a gel pad, not too thick unless she needs the height in order to help her stand up. My MIL refuses to sit on any pad now, because the first one I bought her was almost 4 inches thick and she totally rejected it saying it was too tall. So, you just never know. Do a google search for wheelchair pads, I know someone gave a link to a good one not long ago. I think it was on Amazon.

Hope someone can give you more help.

a good recliner is a remote controlled electric one . elders need to shift positions a lot and the right shift at the right time can transfer pressure to the spine and off of the overexerted buttocks . my mother bitched about her 700 dollar electric recliner for her last 6 months of life but it was clear to see it gave her a million comfort options .

There is something called a Roho cushion that might help. OTs and PTs know about this sort of thing. You might ask her doctor to write an order for an ot evaluation focused on her adaptive seating and other in home adaptive devices that might help.

Can she weight shift or do a little pushup in the chair? Sheep skin is kind of hot and moisture retaining, and does not releive pressure all that well, but even with anything better that you use, especially if sensation is impaired, you have to move around and relieve pressure every fifteen minutes or so. A "honeycomb" style cushion is a little lower maintenance and more stable than Roho and might be a consideration too.
