JackiR, another thing I just thought regard FMLA, aks your employer if they have an insurance fund tied with the FMLA.

When I had to use FMLA for a serious illness I had and was out of work for almost 2 months, I was paid a salary via Metlife [similar to Aflac].... it wasn't my whole salary but durable. That was a pleasant surprise.

If you are getting paid, your employer may say it is not a leave, but another employment. Use caution.

I believe he has to be on Medicaid. And it's not an easy program to get into. I think a spouse is not eligible. but I'm not sure.

FMLA is only good for 90 days, thus what would be your plan after 90 days? As for the government to pay you to be a caregiver, I doubt there are any real good programs available. Majority of us doing family caregiving are not paid, unless the spouse can pay for the caregiving from their own pocket.

If your husband can qualify for Medicaid, check with your State's medicaid office as every State has their own rules, regulations, and programs. Maybe the State could pay you [usually minimum wage] for a few hours each week. If your husband is a Veteran, contact the VA to see what programs they might have.
