I am taking care of my mother. She had Pt's and Ot's but is not strong enough for them now. Tricare and Medicare were paying for them but my mother needs full time care which I am providing. How do I go about getting financial help? I cannot work and take full time care of her.

No, sorry. Tricare and Medicare will not pay for caregivers. Since she has Tricare, perhaps it would be good to look into benefits through the VA. If she qualifies, there may be some money there to pay a caregiver. I think it is about $2K a month. She would have to have little in the way of assets and have or spouse or herself that served in a war to qualify, if I understand correctly. The VA is very slow, so it can take a while to get benefits even if you qualify. I think they pay retroactively to the date of application if you do. I hope someone who knows more than I do about it will discuss this.

I suggest you contact her county's Human Services department and ask for a needs assessment. Sometimes there is a wait, so the sooner you call the sooner you'll have an appointment. Be sure you are present during the interview! Sometimes elders exaggerate what they are able to do.

The case worker who comes to the house will know about what benefits might be available and how to apply for them. Medicaid is one possibility. Meals on Wheels or food stamps is a possibility. Even if Mom is not qualified for any county assistance the worker will probably have advice about other resources in the community.
