Your mother would pay you out of pocket to be a care provider. Have an attorney help you create a care contract indicating exactly the services provided, the living arrangement, and the pay. If you are to receive more than a couple thousand dollars, you should have an accounting professional help with managing payroll taxes and reporting income to IRS.

If your mother qualifies for Medicaid Community and Home Based Services, ask the worker about being paid as her caregiver. They can tell you how to go about that in your state. You cannot be paid just for living with an elderly parent, and helping them out in general. She would have to be unable to manage her own activities of daily living without assistance; such as preparing food, eating, bathing, getting dressed, toileting or incontinence care, basic household tasks like laundry, and maintaining the home in a clean and safe environment. If she has any cognitive impairment, then she also needs full time supervision to keep her safe.

What state are you in? Some states will allow Medicaid patients who need caregiving to choose a family member as the caregiver through what is called In Home Supportive Services (IHSS). My understanding is that the pay is low and hours limited, however it can be very helpful to some. Here is a link to a page here on AgingCare regarding ways to get paid as a caregiver to a parent:
