My mom is in a memory care center...with Alzheimer's and she was just told that she got e coli chronic bacteria....can anyone tell me how serious is this...she is in pain with burning and pain...doctor tole me that there is nothing more he can do for her..I am not giving up that easy..what should or can I do...thanks
I would ask mom's doctor what s/he'd do if this were her mom. I've asked this question of doctors when they've given me a whole long list of things we "could" do. The "your mom" question has gotten me some very blunt and honest answers. Above all, as Pam says, the pain must be addressed at almost any cost.
D-Mannose is a kind of sugar that occurs naturally in cranberries, to which E. coli bacteria like to stick. D-Mannose isn't absorbed well by the body so it passes out of the body in the urine. While it is in the bladder, the E. coli bacteria will stick to the D-Mannose; then when one urinates, the D-mannose and E. coli pass out of the body together as a unit.
Here is one article, but there is a lots more information on the Internet:

I had my mother on this and it cleared up her problem-- and I take it myself.
