I have a chronic partial small bowel obstruction and often have overflow diarrhea at night. The best product I’ve found is GoodNites. They’re meant for young girls (and boys), but the XXL size fits up to 165 lbs. They fit more snugly than adult diapers, which helps contain any leaks more effectively. They’re also more comfortable. Sorry you and your mom are dealing with this!
My mom had this problem on and off for YEARS. It was worse over the past two years and really affecting her quality of life. Her PCP started her on a once daily Imodium and as well as very high fiber gummies and it finally put the explosive and very messy accidents to bed.
My mother in law has bowel incontinence, we use the Walmart brand Assurance, and it's specifically for incontinence, though it prevents her soiling her clothes and my furniture, she still has to clean herself up. But they seem to do the trick.
I give my mother (98) Metamucil every am to help keep her bowls consistent. When I have to work and she forgets ( dementia) I hear from her. I'm not sure if this helps but good luck. 💚
I do not know what product can be used to contain it more effectively. However, if you have worked with your GI doc or PCP and have a diagnosis that allows it, immodium is great. My dad cannot always take that, but he is allowed a prescribed med called Cholestyramine oral suspension 4mg packets. It is a stool thickener and returns his watery stools (that are less controllable day and night), to a more solid and controllable situation. Hope this helps!
I am not sure about you undergarment question, but consider having everyone write down what you family member is eating and drinking throughout the day to identify possible diarrhea triggers.
