I don't mind paying the out of pocket costs, however to have to come up with cash is not always possible especially when the daily cost is $300 a day. Why can't I use a credit card at a skilled nursing facility to pay for these expenses?

It is a common practice where I live for a facility to set up a trust account for residents to pay for extra costs, is this not an option where you are?
I had an agreement with my mom's nursing home where some extras like foot care were added to her monthly bill, is that a possibility?

The OP wants to use a credit card to pay for her spouses STAY at the facility. Not to put money in his trust account. The facility doesn’t accept credit cards.

Credit card companies charge merchants (like the LTC facility in this instance) a fee based on the amount of the transaction, typically 1-3%. So if a month's care is $5000, then the credit card processing fee would be $50-150; multiply the fee amount by 12 months and a number of residents and you're talking about real money. Checks cost the LTC nothing to process, assuming they clear.

Or a personal loan from the bank. The interest rate is often lower than a cash advance against a credit card.

It's going to vary from facility to facility. The SNF near me accepts credit cards for respite care.
